kodiac Posted September 1, 2007 #76 Share Posted September 1, 2007 I ordered the eggcrate on the Star. The beds were terrible, overdue for replacement. The eggcrate mattress made it much better. Asked for it when we boarded-it was on our bed within the hour. That is amazing - we asked for one on the Star and was told for the FIRST time that we must order one prior to getting on the ship. This was also the same person who could not keep our ice full. No problem, less tip for that person, and pre-ordered for the next cruise - we should be OK now. flvol77 Posted September 1, 2007 #77 Share Posted September 1, 2007 O.K. So I got that far, but the page is blank and there doesn't appear to be any way to fill it in. Now what? I understand now that you still must fax the request in and that confirmation will show up on the personalizer. Another lesson learned.
flvol77 Posted September 1, 2007 #80 Share Posted September 1, 2007 One thing I did notice is that a couple of you are over 150 days from sailing - I would send the notice in again if it doesn't show up at final payment and if it doesn't show up then around 30 days left before your cruise. I am sure so many people cancel before 75 days out that they may not really even look at those requests until final payment.

That was out guy - never could get it in his head that we WANTED ICE and we had to keep BEGGING.

ArizonaRalphie Posted September 2, 2007 #83 Share Posted September 2, 2007 Sometimes it is just better to find where the ice is filled and get it yourself. :) Yeah, but ya' know, "It just ain't my job man." I suppose if I did that, I could also make the bed, change the towels, grab Henry and vacuum the cabin, etc. etc. etc. We had to ask our dude repeatedly to always leave ice when he did the room and that always seemed to slip hie mind. ncruiser Posted September 8, 2007 #90 Share Posted September 8, 2007 Thanks to flvol77 for the copy of the letter about the egg crates. It was so orginized and will be easy for the steward to see just what he needs to do. This site is perfect!!
JacquieP Posted September 8, 2007 #91 Share Posted September 8, 2007 I ask for the egg crate topper because the orthopedic surgeon who did my three level spinal fusion told me to use one or be miserable. I tried sleeping without one and found out that he knew what he was talking about.

I faxed my request for an egg crate mattress topper approximately 3 1/2 months before sailing and I first noticed it on our Travel Summary on about 1 1/2 months before sailing. So I agree that they wait until after final payment to note it on the Travel Summary.

flvol77 Posted September 9, 2007 #96 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Call me crazy but I did something crazy today...We usually bring a fake tempur pedic 2 inch bed topper that we buy off ebay (around $40 shipped) Well its heavy and we can never bring it home with us because once you open it up they are can't be put back... So, I bought a Aero bed with a tempur pedic air mattress topper on it. Well, we got it today and its smaller than our bed topper that we always bring....I set it up and I could believe how comfortable it was - I was blown away. The reason I bought it was because there has been nights I couldn't sleep in the Princess beds and I would think I am never going on a cruise again....well, if the bed topper doesn't work we will have the aero bed, so at least we will have options. A Sixth? Posted September 9, 2007 #97 Share Posted September 9, 2007  If you are lucky enough to gt a ship with the new bedding, you won't need the foam topper. The beds on the Crown were better than my bed at home. I harp on about this on many fronts. Cruise ship are far behind hotels in almost every way when we talk about cabin/room comforts. No non-smoking cabins as an example. The Crown has great beds, as did the RCI Mariner (just off after her refit). The Sun Princess and the NCL Princess have beds that may stand the test to rent by the hour in a big city.... Carnival beds are great..... Louis Cruises.... the floor is more comfy. Thompson and Sun Cruises actually put rocks in the bed to keep passengers at the casino, which is so full of smoke that passengers actually affixiate and pass out in their beds..,
SoSueMe Posted September 9, 2007 #98 Share Posted September 9, 2007 Call me crazy Crazy? Of course you're crazy. You're a Vols fan. :D (Just some good natured ribbing from your neighbor to the North. You got Pearl? We got Billy Clyde! See ya in November. ) Seriously, though, I am a little ticked over this mattress thing. I booked our cruise before I had fully explored this website. I had read a few comments about the uncomfortable beds, one of the reasons I gave DH to splurge on a mini-suite was the Princess brochure that exclaims that the CB mini-suites have "all the amenities of a balcony stateroom and these added luxuries: welcome glass of champagne, separate sitting area, sofa bed, luxury mattresses and pillows, two TVs, a spacious closet, desk, bathroom tub and massage...". ^That's a DIRECT QUOTE from the brochure advertising all cruises for May 2007 to May 2008 and is found in the cabin descriptions specifically for CB (page 67). Can anyone say, false advertising... Hmmmm. Class action, anyone? [i'm KIDDING!] [before the Princess cheerleaders appear, let me say that I'm going on this first-ever cruise with an open mind and will not let a bad mattress ruin our special anniversary. :) But it does annoy me that Princess is deceiving people, especially first-time cruisers like us.]

I totally agree with you. After I read about the great mattresses in minis, after suffering with these terrible beds for the last 15 years on Princess, I got all excited. That is until our next cruise where they were supposed to be in place. We had a full suite on that cruise and still had to get two (double) egg crate mattress pads to make the bed tolerable. Not sure what Princess is thinking here, but I am sure there are many that are very unhappy after getting a mini and finding these old lumpy mattresses on the beds. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! With other cruise lines coming up with comfortable beds, not sure why Princess thinks adding a duvet and nice sheets only will change the comfort for sleeping? As you can put the nicest sheets in the world on a terrible mattress and it will still be a terrible mattress.
SoSueMe Posted September 9, 2007 #100 Share Posted September 9, 2007 T2K -- We're going to be in E729, because I wanted a completely covered [private ;) ] balcony -- but then I read your post about the windy conditions (after I had booked.) :( I'm hoping for calmer weather. I noticed others said it wasn't a big problem, so I guess we will see. Is there a possibility that Princess has upgraded some of the suites/mini-suites mattresses by now? I'm still going to fax my topper request on Monday, just to be safe. Maybe I'll fax them a copy of page 67 of their brochure, too. EDIT: I am really surprised that Princess hasn't upgraded when their less-expensive alternative line, Carnival, appears to already have great mattresses!
