Thanks for leaving that info. Your probably relieved that it's time for the weather to improve, hopefully, so you can better train for your FP Marathon. My husband wants to run it too and good luck with your time:) .
bthorn1108 Posted March 5, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2007 That's too bad that they changed the itinerary. I haven't been to St. Lucia yet and was looking forward to getting there on the Destiny sometime in the near future. I haven't been to St. Kitts either, so it might work out. I do have to say, that after visiting Casa de Campo, it really is not worthy of an overnight stay, IMHO. I'm not sure what you would do to fill your time there, as there is not much to do. MamaParrotHead Posted March 5, 2007 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I must be among the minority to wish this route wasn't so port intensive. I am not the type of person that could just not get off the boat in port, and the long days we put in when we are in port every day for a week? I'd need a vacation FROM my vacation. I really wish they had kept the old route, did anyone hear why they nixed Aruba? I guess my Southern route plans will be on hold until they switch it up again. :(

I guess my Southern route plans will be on hold until they switch it up again. :( Yes, I can imagine for some it might be a bit much, I personally just love all the ports and spending time on the islands. I can sleep on the plane :) Oh, I'm so happy to get a new course to travel and we all love the Destiny too. Thanks for leaving that info. Finally some sunshine :) The Pig is a great race with lots of local support along the way, thanks for the luck, if I dont get my long runs in, I will need it.:p

TCF Posted March 8, 2007 #12 Share Posted March 8, 2007 ...but I think it is all about fuel costs. A ship tied up uses far less fuel than one at sea. It would not surprise to see some of the other lines change to more port intensive itineraries as the costs rise. Also all the talk about the American economy sliding into recession...more often than not a self-fullfilling prophecy:( ...may also have the Head Office 'bean counters' getting a little nervous. It can't be easy running a corporation where dcisions have to be made today, based upon pretty thready information, that can have a huge impact upon the bottom line two or three years from today! Just my thoughts. Tom:) It also generates far less revenue. The entire time at dock...no casino or shops are open..people can be off the ship spending money at the port. You have just lost your captive audience. ShedQueen77 Posted March 8, 2007 #14 Share Posted March 8, 2007 My Destiny cruise still is on the 2007 itinerary (the last one in 2007), so I'll have a great excuse for a return cruise: To see the new ports of call! :) Thank you for the update! If the port knocks the fees charged to the ship down or removes them completely for the revenue that the passengers bring on shore it might be a wash. Less fuel/ no port fees = lost revenue in casino Who knows but UB........
CyClore Posted March 8, 2007 #16 Share Posted March 8, 2007 I believe that the primary reason Carnival cancelled Aruba was for the fuel savings. Too far to travel when there are so many other interesting ports nearby. I loved aruba!!! When we booked our Triumph cruise for April 21st I really wanted to sail to Aruba but Destiny wasn't going there anymore so that is why I went with the Triumph. The other people going with me haven't done the Eastern, so we are giving that a try...
deeolasingh Posted March 8, 2007 #17 Share Posted March 8, 2007 Looks like I'll be doing Destiny in 08.... I just wished they would have dropped Dominica instead of Antigua.... I didnt care too much for Dominica or St Lucia.... But I sure look forward to going to DR Im going to start looking into a day pass to one of the all inclusive resorts as I did and Antigua.... I guess I will use Dominica as a Ship day....
