Beach Club Colony: I'd Think Twice About This One

Got back last week from a Carnival Cruise. We decided on the 7 Mile Beach Break at the Beach Club Colony Hotel. The hotel itself is small, with a small beachfront. There were passengers from both Carnival and RC there...at least a hundred people crammed into a very small area. The lounge chairs were literally on top of each other. Towels weren't provided. At one point some people started to use the umbrellas scattered about, and the staff came over to stop them.

Ironically, the beachfront for yards on either side of the hotel was empty, because it was in front of time shares, but couldn't be utilized by us. Unfortunate, because the beach is really beautiful.

The hotel does have an outdoor lunch area, and one drink was provided.

If you don't mind feeling like a sardine in a can, then you might enjoy it.

I've never heard a good thing about this place. And can you imagine staying there in the hotel? I can't.

 

All the beaches are free, at least up the the high tide (or something like that) mark. You just can't use the chairs or the facilities.

 

We stay at the Regal Beach Club and they have a guard that keeps people off the chairs and out of the pool area unless you are staying there. It's not cheap to stay there, and we appreciated that we were able to grab a lounge chair whenever we wanted.

 

Beach Club Colony is overselling what little space they have. And IMO, Grand Cayman is making a huge mistake allowing all the ships that they allow in port each day. When we were there, there were two days that there were nine ships. That's nuts. And because of this, many places along 7MB only sell so many day-passes (except BCC and they seem to sell one to anyone who asks), because they have to take in consideration their guests who are staying in their own facility.

 

We love GC, but we are rethinking about going back. Just too many ships in port is ruining the experience for land vacationers and cruise ship passengers.

Thanks for the heads-up! We are trying to figure out which RCI excursion to do, and that was one we were considering. We have already done the stingray city on previous cruises (been there, done that!), so we are looking for something different. I guess we'll keep looking! ;)
