Fantasy Only Questions ...

I was told that the Fantasy will dock in Cozumel. Does she always dock rather than tender in Cozumel?

It depends on how many ships are in Cozumel. The docks can only hold 4 ships. (sometimes 5 if they are smaller) The other ships will have to tender. The pier at Puerta Maya is now looking like it will be late 08 for it to be finished. They are currently working on the extension and have most of the pilings repoured. Once it is opened then that will allow two additional ships to dock.

We also just returned from the Fantasy today. We love this ship and it's crew, most of whom call you by name and are really friendly.

Went to your site but couldn't find any album that was the Fantasy. Is there another way to get to the pictures.

The Fantasy

First time on Carnival. Contrary to most here, I found the Fantasy to be in need of a major overhaul. The ship is now 18 years old and many areas, even if generally well maintained are quite dated. The Celebration dining room is really tacky. Pseudo Las Vegas Casino. The main atrium is still impressive and the game room is nice as is Cleopatras Lounge. This ship went on the cheap in many materials. All of the bars are in laminate. They are not granite or marble. That's cheesy. The staterooms need to be upgraded. The window stool in our Main deck stateroom, oceanview was not wood. It was wallcovering simulating wood, noit even a veneer. The window was dirty from the outside. It had not been washed from the previous sailing. The carpets in most of the common areas have been down for several years and need to be replaced. They look worn and have lost their bright colors.

The Crew

The pluses are the crew. They were very friendly and made the sail very positive. Butch the cruise director is very sharp young guy, but did one thing that was really inappropriate. A passenger got up during the debarkation briefing and was walking out of the Universe Lounge and Butch asked were he was going, he said to the men's room. Butch tossed him a roll of toilet paper. Funny, lot's of laughs, but if it was me I would not have caught it and told him to pick up his poor taste excuse of a joke. Other than that Butch was very informative and helpful. The Captain and the crew were very nice and cordial.

The Passengers

Negatives are and I know I will be hammered on this, the passengers. I have never run across a more rowdy and low class bunch of passengers in my life. On formal night I noticed that many men, dressed in jeans, and either t-shirts or any other than a suit. Great you want to cruise casual, then eat at one of the buffet's offered on the Lido deck. But don't show up to formal night dressed like you just went on a shore excursion.

Way too many people whistling and screaming to catch the attention of as friend walking across the main lobby several floors down in the main atrium. This happened several times at dinner.

This was definitely a Bud drinkers cruise. I would say the majority of folks drinking, were drinking Bud. Being from New Jersey I felt really out of place.

The excursions.

We took the trip to Chichen Itza. There was a bathroom stop at a tourist trap. It would have been better to have proceeded directly to the Archaeological Site, and saved 30-40 minutes, since there is precious little

time spent there. My wife and I had to walk quite briskly to view the observatory. A 15 minute hike from the main area, but well worth it.

What, we saw of Progreso is that it is developing. The pier is very impressive and modern. The town is small and quaint, with probably little to do.

The bus trip was over extremely well maintained and wide roads. You would not know it was Mexico. You can see there has been a tremendous amount of money invested in infrastructure for the region.

A word to the Mexican government, please remove all of the peddlers from inside the Chichen Itza site. It detracts from the experience. I understand the country is poor, but it is ridiculous to see what is a world heritage site and one of the new seven wonders of the world turned over to all of the peddlers. There is a tremendous chance of damage to the surrounding areas.

We took the Isla de Pascion VIP Tour. It is a terrific beach set on a peninsula, not really an island. The food was very good. They had Mahi Mahi, rice, Guacamole, Chips, and salsa along with beer, Dos Equis Lager.

The tour guides in Mexico were very friendly as were the people.

Cozumel's main downtown has a lot of really nice upscale shops. Beautiful stores with first class finishes and displays. Lot's of variety for purchases.

New Orleans

The ship terminal is within walking distance of the French Quarter. When we arrived, we walked up to Julia Street and had lunch at Emeril's which is in the Warehouse District. Just 4 blocks north of the Julia Street Pier escalators. The French Quarter is about a 15-20 minute walk north from the Erato Pier Terminal.

There is a real sense of pride resident's have in their city and rightfully so. Great small city with a unique character and ambiance. Very friendly and appreciative of your support for their city.

Hello again! I realize now that you must be the couple we were talking with while waiting on the tour to Passion Island. I agree with you about the cruise. We had a great time, but I could have written the same review. We did Chichen Itza on our last stop in Progreso and also agree with you there. If you go again, I suggest Uxmal. We had a great time there with no "bathroom stop" and no peddlers inside the ruins complex. I hope you don't think all cruises have those types of people. I thought it was the lowest class of passengers that we have ever cruised with. I have cruised out of New Orleans before, but never with fellow passengers like that. I also noticed the whistling and the lack of respect for dress codes.

Do you know that there was a younger couple that attended the Captains Reception and while she was dressed appropriately, he came dressed in jeans or dockers, sneakers with an over sized t-shirt that hung out outside his polo shirt sleeves with a beer bottle to boot. Nice way to greet the Captain and crew. I felt bad for the girl, but I bet she's use to his behavior.

Is the 360 turn shortly after departure? About what time? I definitely do not want to miss it!

jackdis, I did not see where anyone had responded to your question...

When the Fantasy, or any other cruise ship docks at New Orleans, they move to dock with the bow upstream and remain in that position until departure.

At the scheduled departure time, give or take a little:rolleyes: , the ship's thrusters move the ship away from the dock and into the flow of the river. The bow of the ship catches the flow and begins the swing to the downstream position.

Now all that said, I am looking at your question above.. If I remember my math and compass degrees and such, the reversal of bow to stern position constitute a 180 degree turn, not a 360 degree which would put the bow right back where it started:eek: .

Thanks.....you made me laugh about my math. My husband already made fun of me for that question!! Ha ha.....

The ship actually left about 45 minutes late. An announcement was made that we would be doing some "maneuvers" before we left, but that all was well.

We had a great time!!! If anyone has any questions, ask away!! I would love to share some info. about our great trip on the Fantasy and to NOLA.

:)

I was on this one also and agree about the passengers, especially the large number of misbehaving children and screaming parents.

I was seated at a dinner table with BOTH of the elderly men (97 and ??)from the talent show.

Mr. Wiggle and the other man....wow!! What a table! We were at the talent show and the other man sat next to me at one of the things in the Universe Lounge.

I had two children with me, and I must say, they were well behaved.....they had a ball on the cruise and on our excursion and at the beach. They also enjoyed the Camp Carnival activities so much. It was a wonderful trip for all of us.

We were on this same Fantasy cruise. There did seem to be quite a few children on board. We were also on board the Jan. 31 cruise and seemed like quite a few more children then. We still love the Fantasy and it's very friendly staff. We'll be doing a back-to-back in May again.

Ronath-- We were on the Jan 31st sailing too! It was our best Fantasy trip yet! I could not believe how smooth the ride was after our bumpy ride in January 2007.

I have a question for you, or anyone who may have firsthand experience with this. We are thinking about doing a back-to-back in October. How does this work? Do you have to get off the ship? If so, do they make you take all of your things off the ship and get back in line?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide:D

is there any must see/do excursions at either port?

I would certainly recommend one of several Mayan ruin sites that you can take from Progreso. Chichen Itza has recently cited as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

In Cozumel, I would consider spending time at one of the beaches. Snorkeling and diving in Cozumel are very popular activities.

Hope you enjoy your cruise on the Fantasy!

OOPS! You are correct! I apologize for my misinformation. The only way it would seem to be a 360 turn is if you had 2 or 3 "Fun Ship Specials" before sail away  !
