spiritofscouse Posted July 31, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2004 Hi we are booked for Sep 12 west carib cruise on board the explorer of the seas. I have checked about hurricane season and it says that it runs from June to October. However a friend of mine insisted that Hurricane season is in September. I m a bit worried. I also have been checking the weather in Belize, cozumel and grand cayman since June and mostly the weather forecast indicated thunder storms. should I be that concerned? Anyone could comment on the above>?
yarlenna Posted July 31, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2004 Official hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. There HAVE even been tropical storms and hurricanes in the other months of the year. Yes, September is the heart of the hurricane season. In the tropics afternoon thunderstorms are common especially during the summer and early fall. MOST of the time, they are just passing storms. If you are going to cruise, you always run the risk of bad weather. The risk is just a little higher in September.
mariapd719 Posted July 31, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2004 We usually cruise in Nov which is also hurricane season with never a problem. The only thing is Sept is the HEART of the season. My friend cruised in Sept 2 yrs ago I think for her honeymoon and had awesome weather. The worst that would happen if it came your way would be to divert you to the eastern itinerary. They wont cruise through it...HAVE A GREAT TIME and DONT Worry
