close to the Renaissance in FLL? I have a list of all sorts of bits and pieces which people from this board say they take on a cruise with them, but you never know ... I might forget something.

The pier is close to "old San Juan" which has all kinds of shops etc. As you probally know the shop on ship has alot of neccesisities . I have bought things like nail files, sanitary pads, tampons, even a hair brush on ship and usally the prices are pretty much what you normally pay. If you go on a Carnival ship they supply you with toothpaste, a disposable shaver, mouthwash and sometimes even samples of tylenol etc. Their showers have shampoo and shower gel.

Yes, there is a large shopping center with a Publix supermarket about a 5 minute walk from the Renaissance Hotel in FLL (I'm assuming you mean the Renaissance on 17th Street?). There is also a drug store right across the street from the Renaissance.

The RCI pier is not near "old San Juan" it is across the bay and is not near any stores. To get to any stores will involve a cab ride.
