We are doing Western again on the new Freedom ship. Our next cruise, I want to do the 11 day Southern trip. I think being your first cruise, anything in the Caribbean would be fabulous! I absolutely love Grand Cayman (Western) and I'm looking forward to that stop the most. On the Eastern & Southern cruise, we went to St. Thomas twice. The first time, we stayed on that island and went to Megans Bay. It's just beautiful. Our second visit, we took the ferry over to Trunk Bay and it is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen! Our all time favorite! So I'm sure I didn't help much but my point is that no matter what cruise you choose, i think you will have a great time. We have been just about everywhere, and do not really care for the crowds at some of the islands. I think we would like western more if it weren't for the fact that the islands seem so crowded, esp. Grand Cayman with the need to tender in addition to the potential for large crowds with some of the bigger ships. Actually, we have no problems with Jamaica as long as you are prepared, use your own guide, and direct them to keep you away from the areas where you might have problems. You haven't seen Jamaica ulnless you get out of the "cities" and tourist traps such as the Falls and explore the beautiful countryside and tube the White River. Favorite itinerary to date is Serenade southern. Favorite islands to date are St Lucia, Barbados, St. Thomas/St. John, Dominican, and Antigua. I would suggest eastern for a first Caribbean experience. More of the standard cruise experience, and you have to do St Thomas/St John as least once, especially if you want to shop. FYI - For those who want to do a southern itinerary out of Florida - Cunard offers a 7 day southern out of FLL. The QM2 cruises at a faster speed, so you can do southern in 7 days.
