highcbob Posted April 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2004 Hello fellow Cunarders, Now that our future Queen has been transferred ( even before she reigned ) to P&O, we now have a future 'Queen Victoria' on the horizon. As I understand, the city of Liverpool, England, very much indeed wanted her to be based and registered in their fine city - the home of White Star Line. The only problem was that they could not build their new passenger terminal in time. So now, even though the new future Queen may commence her European cruises from a warmer Mediterranen port, ( but who knows? ), do you think it may be possible she may now have a chance for a "Queen Victoria - Liverpool" registration? For all you ocean liner buffs, when is the last time a Cunard/White star ship has had "Liverpool" under her name on the stern or on her live preservers? Ah, reminds me of the "Titanic" movie with the rescue scene on the stern, "don't come near me, I'll jump!"

curlyQ Posted April 10, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2004 I think this is a great topic, if I see one more "what is a hull balcony?" I'll... Our new Queen with a "Liverpool" registration sounds facinating to me. I will do a little research and try to come up with an answer to Bobs question "when is the last time a Cunard White Star ship...?" Curls.
KenC Posted April 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Both QM and QE had Liverpool on their sterns in the 60's Don't see the point of all this nostalgia about Liverpool It's like proposing future transatlantics terminate in Boston because that was the original Cunard preference as a US base Ever controverially yours Ken
curlyQ Posted April 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2004 now now Ken darling, each to his/her own. We don't want to take the limelight off of the south of England and perhaps move it a little north now, would we? Thanks for answering the question QM and QE. Now we know! KenC Posted April 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Now now curlyQ darling, all I was saying was that you can't live in the past By the way, I'm from Wales and don't give a rat's a** about the difference between the North and South of England I'm sure there were later examples of Liverpool on Cunard sterns, but I'm sure that was for clerical reasons and not some great nostalgic resonance. curlyQ Posted April 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Go ahead Ken, tell us how you REALLY feel darling. Are you living away from Wales in exile?
highcbob Posted April 12, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I have just returned from being away for the holiday weekend. I see a couple of you have been 'busy' in my absence Ken, my Grandfather was from 'Brighton', he moved to the central coast of N.S.W Australia, and lived in a house with my Grandmother, they called their home "Brighton" with a sign of the same name hanging overhead from the front porch. mufi Posted April 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Sailing out of Liverpool would make quite a lot of sense. There's more brass in't north, but they would need to provide bigger kenels to accomodate our whippets.
