Ephraim Posted March 19, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2007 Always find lists like this interesting... 736,240 eggs Is that real eggs or is that "egg product" or a combination of the two? 26,070 pounds of coffee Now, this one is more interesting, since most coffee on ships isn't actually from ground coffee, but in fact from coffee concentrate which is a liquid and wouldn't be measure in pounds but in liquid measure. Or is this only the grounds that are used for making speciality coffees? 17,890 gallons of fruit juices Another interesting number, since most juice is usually frozen concentrate, I wonder if they are measuring the water on the ship as part of the total size (I assume so). 33,615 pounds of cake mixes Uhm.... they can't figure out how to make a cake from scratch? (It's cheaper and usually of higher quality when made from scratch. No need to use powdered eggs, hydrolysed fats, etc.) 29,180 pounds of shortening Now, that amount of transfats is just... frightening.

There is no "ground" on a ship Of course they would have transfat on a transatlantic cruise for transsexuals
hdawson Posted March 19, 2007 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2007 Coffee from concentrate hasn't been used on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival for quite some time. Brewed! In fact, RCCL uses all Seatle's Best. All lines make it fairly strong but it can be weakened with steaming hot water. There is no way to make colored water into coffee. We all have our favorite taste and probably we all make it different. No way a cruiseline or even a restaurant can satisfy all of us.

hdawson Posted March 19, 2007 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2007 And as I recall bght out by Starbucks. It's better than Starbucks for my personal taste. Actually, when Seattle's Best was introduced to RCCL the company installed all new brewers on the entire fleet and sent teams to teach the ship's staff how to use them in making quality coffee. http://www.seattlesbest.com/About/default.aspx

We all have our favorite taste and probably we all make it different. No way a cruiseline or even a restaurant can satisfy all of us. You call that strong? In Quebec, we call that coloured water. My partner needs to add an espresso shot just to make Starbucks into regular coffee. I would be surprised that they would be using brewed in the dining rooms and the buffet. It's cost, space and garbage prohibitive. Can you imagine how much time you would spend brewing that much coffee? Seattle's Best was purchased by Starbucks. One of the things that I can't fault is Starbucks. They have treated their employees extremely well. Now, if all their coffee was Fair Trade and Bird Friendly, they would almost be saints.
