Costa Mediterranea cruisers

I see where Tina0922 has asked some of my questions, but no one gave her the correct reply. I'll ask again for help:

If we do NOT get off the ship in port San Juan or la Romana, what activities or lounges will be open on the Mediterranea??? I know the casino is closed but how would we spend the hours in those ports??

Also, if we do go into la Romana, does anyone know anything about the tours available in that town??

Lastly, once we board the Mediterranea, will a staff member show us to our rooms or do we go to them on our own??

Thanks for your help. We would like to make plans for the cruise but need these answers.

Can't wait to try Costa after 26 other cruises...... We are keeping an open mind as everyone suggests. We should have fun just with those nice folks who have logged on to the Member Roll Call for 4/8!!!! Wish we could meet someplace to see faces behind the e-mails!!

It would be nice to meet up....did we finalize on a place and time yet?

Boy, time seems to be going slow up to the cruise.....I guess this weekend when I am off, I can officially start taking things out and putting things aside! :) We will be down to two weeks.

I thought too the time seems to be going by slow....

I am guessing the shows, music, dinner etc will go on during the evenings we are in ports. Shops on board and casino will most likely be closed.

We were on the Med three years ago but I don't remember if we found our rooms by ourselves or not. It was an easy ship to get around.

Meet at sailaway on Deck 9, Apollo bar area? Yellow leis or something to indicate we are cruise critic folks?

Just got back on sunday from the costa mediterranea. I'll do my best to answer your questions. When we first arrived, we were directed to the buffet b/c the rooms weren't ready yet. After we ate lunch, we found our room ourselves (room 8174 cat 10 balcony). Not very hard to find. We did get off the boat in san juan, and that was the only night we didn't make it to our dinner (1st seating) We found out that you could eat 2nd seating if you called and made arrangements that night. We were back on the boat before it got too dark. The shows, etc... went on. When we went to la romana, we did not get off the boat, but many people did. We just ate dinner as usual, and went to the show. I hope that helps. I'll post a review of the ship/week this weekend. I will do my best to answer any questions if you have them.

Thanks for answers. I am surprised shows will be going on while Mediterranea is in port because other cruise lines shut all that stuff down to make sure you go into town. We were always told NOT to walk anyplace in San Juan, but if it is still light out, then we MAY attempt to get off the ship. I appreciate your reply, RN.

No problem with going to buffet first and then going to our room.

Are Cruise Critic folks going to meet at sailaway, deck 9, Apollo bar?????

Would love to say hi to nice people helping us out with pre-cruise info.

See you in 18 days......

  • 3 weeks later...

Shops, bars and casino shut down while in port. There is no show on the night in port. Puerto Rico isn't bad at night. We usually go to the Hotel San Juan, or the casino in the Westin, then take a cab to the pier.

We just cool it by the pool when we don't go ashore, also we use the spa facilities.
