Will You Now Smuggle?

So you think Carnival is pulling our leg? Have you bothered to actually look at the website and see where it says NO non alcoholic beverages and ONE bottle of wine?? It's very clear on the website... So you saying that Carnival is just playing an early April Fools joke??

Maybe the Chief of the CC Morals Police hacked Cranival's website and posted the change under FAQ's!:D :D

Odd...my spouse and I just go back from the Paradise and we had no problem taking 1 bottle of wine and 3 bottles of champagne on board at Embarkation. We also came back on board in Ensenada with 3 bottles of water.

I think if you take a reasonable amount of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages on board it is fine. They are probably trying to discourage people from brining multiple cases of water and wine on board - something we saw when we did a 7-day a year or so ago.

While watching the Travel Channel cruise show the other night, it was showing how EVERY piece of luggage was xrayed.. If Carnival wanted to they could take all beverages out of every piece of luggage. They see it when they xray. So they must take out only excess amounts.

I know that every year we take cans of soda, water, and yes,,my husband packs 12 cans or more of beer. We have never had any taken away.....

Does anyone have new experiences with this..recently in the past several weeks.....????

My position is that if I can not afford the drinks then I can not afford the cruise.

I don't think it's the ability to afford the drinks Its paying 4$ for a water that I don't like to drink. Then for a soda its 2.50 a glass...hmmmm if I do the math...

40.00 soda card

30.00 in water

thats 70.00 for a week in just non alcoholic drinks

compared to??? 10.00 if we brought it along.

What would the difference be that carnival will clean and cook your fresh fish that you caught out on an Island?? Is that considered cheap?

My DH and I went deep sea fishing in Cozumel last year. He caught a LARGE Grouper. we brought it back on board and they escorted us to the kitchen and they took our fish and our table number and time. When we went to dinner our waiter brought us the fish...they made us 3 different dishes for us to try..we shared with the rest of the table. The kitchen staff said they do it all the time for guest that catch fish.

Hey even at Disney...which in year makes more than Carnival Cruise lines. For a burger, fries and soda/water you'll spend $15.00 @

But you are also allowed to bring in moderation drinks, sandwiches and snacks in the parks.

The way I look at this is that I enjoy some really nice places to eat. Anyone tried Bern's steakhouse in Tampa. Steaks are about $40 - and you have to separately purchase your potatoes- about $6 bucks. That is outrageous. So next time I am going to smuggle in my own baked potato - because, after all, they are making enough on my steak - right? And don't tell me to go someplace else because I really like Bern's steaks.

Is this any different than smuggling in booze to Carnival?

I'll admit I have not read every single post on all 5 pages of this thread so forgive me if this is redundant; but it sounds to me like Carnival is trying to change it's image????? The F deck goes away, now they are limiting how much alcohol one can bring on board which one assumes will cut down on the drunken sprees seen on any ship where "smuggling" is "tolerated". Hmmmm. Perhaps the days of "fun ships" are coming to a close.

And FWIW, I disagree with those that say if I can't afford the booze I can't afford the cruise. Rarely, of ever do I buy the DODs on board. Last cruise I had 2. However, DH and I bring on enough wine/champagne for however many nights we are on board. We will either take it to dinner with us or uncork and have a glass prior to dinner, taking the bottle with us. The reason we do this is not because we can't afford the booze but rather the mental block of paying $30 for a $7 bottle of wine.

This is not going to make me stop cruising, or change cruise lines or anything so irrational, it's just disappointing. Oh well, I can toast with my glass of water just as easily I guess

I take offense to this statement.. Are you saying that because we take some beer and soda onboard with us that we are poor hilllbillies who shouldn't be allowed to cruise ,because obviously we can't afford it...????

This can't be farther from the truth.. I just don't see the point in spending such a high price for all the drinks,,,,We do have a big bar bill by the end of the cruise..just not as high as if we didn't bring any drinks onboard.

The money I save on drinks I spend in the casino or gift shops, etc. So one way or another Carnival gets their money from my family..

I personally would not say that... but the people raising a huge stink and acting like it's the end of the world... acting like they have no options... those people I would question. When it was allowed... no problem, if you can save a few bucks and they allowed it, why not. But if it's not allowed now, it's still not a huge deal. The scenario above was spending an additional $60 for a week? I'm not going to act like $60 is the end of the world... if that is going to make or break me, I'll stay home. That's just me... it's just not that big of a deal. I wish they would offer a setup package, and I wish they would make their policy more in line with resorts and hotels, but nothing I can do about it.

Who cares what you can afford?

Why would anyone care how much money other passengers have or spend?

Apparently a moderate amount of non-booze drinks may still be brought on board.

I don't want to carry on wine, but if I like a special brand of water or a special soft drink, then why should anyone care enough to object?

Maybe I will have to smuggle in water in a wine bottle!

It all seems really petty.

... but I know I'm not the only one who has never smuggled booze on board. Its simply not worth the time and hassle to me. The drinks aren't that badly priced. I know they make money off them, lots of money, but I could care less.

See you on the Legend in 3 weeks. As for us, we call the Bon Voyage Service and just have our stuff delivered to the cabin. No problem. We will have some of the wife's favorite soda carried on though. Let's see what happens.

Hope I do not get called to claim my golf equipment that got flagged by the X-Ray. They may confiscate my illegal golf balls that I bought in China!:D

GoinCruisin - How hard would it be to update an email? If they changed it Wednesday, it's now Saturday, that doesn't seem like it would take any effort in this advanced technology day and age.

I'm sorry... I thought you said you read it in your docs... docs do take more time to print, and a company the size of Carnival wouldn't be able to turn it around in a day.

I think someone is just trying to get people going. The policy hasn't changed it has always said you can't bring on alcohol, and you can bring on a limited amount of wine. It still says you can bring on nonalcoholic beverages just not excessive amounts, that seems reasonable to me. I mean if someone has a giant suitcase full of soda and water that is excessive!

It may have to do with the way baggage has been going. Maybe they have found in weighing the baggage, which I'm sure they do as it's brought on board, that they're figuring the amount of beverages is adding lots of weight to what their baggage handlers have to carry. When a suitcase starts getting upwards of 50 or 60+ lbs. it becomes a problem from a worker injury standpoint.

we just sailed and took a bottle of vodka, brandy, vermouth, port (4) champagnes, and a jar of olives. in two suitcases not carryons and no problem. i don't care if the drinks were a dollar, i want the brands i want and made the way i like them in my cabin.

We always take booze, water, and Dr. Pepper. Just get the travel size booze in a plastic bottle from the liquor store. I always pack it in the checked luggage. Our S&S account runs us $1500-$2000 for 2 adults. They are not losing any money with us. We just got off NCL in January, and had no problems with the stuff.

We went in January and there was a line a mile long of people waiting to recover their luggage from security. All had booze or mustach sisors:rolleyes:

The cruise line is being petty?????

Sorry all who smuggle but sounds like its the smuggler who is petty.

1) It wasn't smuggling, it was allowed. Pop was always allowed on all cruise lines I've been on. So, I wasn't a smuggler or petty.

2) I don't go 7 days without it at home. Why should I have to go without on VACATION.

3) My solution was just to pick a line that still lets me bring my diet dr pepper with me on vacation. How is that petty. I still have a the option to pick my cruise line, don't I?
