We did this tour last September while on the Coral Princess. It is a beautiful drive through the Costa Rican countryside, however it is a looooooonnnnnng day of travel for an hour at the volcano. It was overcast and rained while we were there but we did get to see down into the crater. Probably would have enjoyed it more if it had been clear. I didn't notice that anyone had any problem's with the altitude. The elevation is around 11,000 feet at the top so you can't run around like you can at sea level. We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant that was very clean and enjoyed a typical Costa Rican meal. The catholic cathedral/shrine was very thought provoking and left a lasting impression on me. The cathedral was full of people walking on their knees to the alter to receive a blessing from the Priest.

We were the first tour to leave the ship in the morning and the last 15 people back on the ship before it left port and did not get to see any of the city in Costa Rica.

Take an umbrella/poncho and a jacket as it is chilly at the top. Our guide was the best and was very proud of his beautiful country. It is a clean and well cared for country, no garbage or broken down cars along the way like we saw in Panama. I was very impressed and would go back to Costa Rica in a heartbeat!!!
