mar326 Posted August 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Just wondering what the cruise ships did on 9/11. Was anyone on a cruise that week?
LARGIN Posted August 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2004 What year are you talking about? In 2002, in Juneau, 3 ships in port blasted their horns for one minute at noon. Everyone stopped doing what they were doing. People in autos blasted their horns also.

jstducky Posted August 3, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2004 i'm on a cruise that begins this year out of boston on 9/11. i'm kind of apprehensive especially since it will be leaving out of boston, so i chose to fly on 9/10 instead. should be intersting to see if there is anything done to mark the 3 year anniversary
newaddiction Posted August 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2004 On our cruise last year we were in Alaska. At dinner there was a moment of silence and they asked us to stand and sing God Bless America. I prefer to remember and reflect in my own way but out of respect I did stand and put my hand over my heart with others. I did not sing. I'm curious what they plan this year. We'll be in sailing back to Long Beach, CA from Mexico. It will be a sea day. Not sure if we will be in U.S. waters by then.
Shelli Posted August 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2004 I was on the old Pacific Princess on 9/11/02, the first anniversary. We had a lovely, tear-jerking memorial service onboard-- it was both touching and tasteful, and I was very glad they held it. Then later (I don't remember the time, but it was late morning, I think), they sounded the ship's horn and there was a minute of silence, when everything simply stopped. We were in Bermuda, and on-shore there were lots of American flags and mention of the date.
