What to do on Fantasy?

I don't gamble or swim.

I do love to sit in the shade and watch the ocean go by as a cool breeze blows.

On Sea Days there will be informative talks, art review and auction, trivia contests etc that will be listed in the Capers. Lots of people just take a good book and find a place in the sun (or shade) to camp out and read.

And of course at night (my favorite) KARAOKE!!!

And Putt Putt...can't forget that!!

Linda,

I could not have said it better. Thank you. On a Cruise you DO what YOU want to DO. There is so much to do that most people can NOT do it all. Enjoy your cruise. I have, all 39 of them. TOday we put on the FANTASY a 96 year old man. Travel ALONE. Been on "I stopped counting after 50." He is in a wheel chair, REPEAT -- he travels alone.

Robert,

He wasnt a gentleman wearing a Captain's hat. I remember seeing a very elderly gentleman on my Jan 18th cruise that was in a wheelchair traveling alone. Just curious if it was the same guy.

It's vacation! You're on a floating resort! surrounded by beautiful carribean waters... and sea air.. unlimited food is all around and you're traveling with other people out to have a good time. And THEN you get to stop at wonderful ports of call.

I bought my first cruise for my 50th bday in 2003... next month I'm going on my 9th!!!! I'm totally addicted!

Hey yall! Besides the gambling, pool, spa, & eating...what else is there to do on the fantasy? This is our first cruise and I am trying to get dh excited and he does not gamble or swim much.

Thanks!

Tiff

Drink plenty of foo-foo drinks with little umbrellas.:p

I have only cruised twice, but I would love to add my 2 cents. It is hard to say "what all do you do on a cruise". You do whatever you want!! That is the good thing about it. My husband and I can never say what all we did once we return. We did "whatever" . Frist of all. I have 2 kids, so when me and DH cruise, "I chill". We sit and play cards on the lido deck, we watch the ocean ( no swimming for us) We have our drinks, we go to the games shows that we wish. We go to our room for a little "quality time", we eat dinner, go to the shows, we go see comedy, providing I am still awake a midnight, I also bring a great book, crossword puzzle, etc.

Try not to plan you cruise too much. JUST GO!!. Each night read your caper and find out whats going on during the next day. Attend what you wish. Hopefully this helps. Just cruise and be happy. Also, make friends. Everyone on the cruise always seem easy to talk to.

That's why my dh always says he's going to do! Got news for him...he's not going alone. We'll have to book suites to get both of our wheelchairs in there! :p

As to the original question, what does he like to do and what interests does he have on land? Read, golf, people watch, eat out? You can literally do a multitude of things. We have different interests - I like the sun - he doesn't. He likes the art auction - I don't. Neither of us go to the trivia, game shows etc. We're doing good to make it to a nightly show. He naps - I don't. I read - he doesn't. He eats a dozen times a day - I try to limit it to twice. We both go to the casino a few times and we both shop in board some. All that to say that even if you don't have the SAME interests, there are lots of things for everyone to do.

Can this be the same man that you both speak of!

My children once sat with an elderly man at dinner on the Millennium. He told them that he cruised two weeks out of every month and that he lived with his daughter on off weeks. She would drive him to the pier, drop him off and pick him back up at the end of his trip. This was in FLL, though.

We thought it very sad that he traveled by himself. He was really cute though! He wore a navy blue blazer and sailing cap . He was such an icon on the ship that he was allowed to sit where ever he wanted each evening.

The evening he sat with my children, we had gone to the Olympic for a special dinner and the children decided to go to the dining room without us. When the gentleman entered the dining room, the head waiter was leading him to a table. He stopped at the children's table and said he wanted to sit with them. The head waiter tried to steer him away, thinking my children would feel uncomfortable, but he insisted on sitting with them. My children said it was alright because they felt sorry for him. As it turned out, they had a wonderful time with this gentleman! :D He told them he was a retired physician and just loved to cruise.

We spoke to him the next day, introduced ourselves and thanked him for keeping the children company. Very nice man! During disembarkation, we saw him standing alone with his luggage...waiting for his daughter I suppose. :(

I am sure that we all speak of the same person, OLD MAN WHIPPLE. That is what the white name tag he wears. Yes, he does wear a white "sailing" cap and a blue jacket. He is a legend in his own time. He should meet Mrs. "B" who lives on the QE2. I have met her too.

Wow ... I can only envy this man and while it may seem rough that he has to handle his luggage alone, I am sure he is used to it if he travels as often as he says. To be his age and have the limitation of needing a wheelchair and still cruise and go about life as he does, more power to him and I can only hope that I have the courage and will power to do as he has chosen to do, live life to the fullest he can and to enjoy every minute of it.

Yeah, the caper is someting to look forward to each night before bed, in my opinion. DH and I relax in bed a read..deciding what we want to attend the next day. I love to read, and together we love cards and board games. In the library you can usually find board games(free) on each cruise to use.(or bring your own) This will be our first cruise taking the kids, so I am sure our schedule will be a little differ this time. However, I am looking forward to Camp Carnival. Since I have cruised before I have noticed the camp and feel very safe leaving a 2 yo and 8 yo in the camp.

I don't know if it's the same guy or not. Seems strange that I saw him in FLL, but you others have seen him in NO. When we saw him waiting for his daughter, he just had a duffel with him. He really didn't need anything else, because he wore the same outfit every day.

KyleesMom - Sorry to hijack your thread. Just to make up, I have attached two photos of the Fantasy ( or the "Fantastic" as our cab driver kept called it, when we were in NO a few weeks ago.:D ) One of the aft and the other is of the Fantasy heading out to sea. Click for a larger view! Anyone know how I can make these even larger?

What is so sad about a 96 year old being able to do what he enjoys for 2 weeks out of every month and then getting to spend the other 2 weeks with his family. I would say that this man has been wonderfully blessed and I can only hope for such an existence during my later years.

P.S. Don't mistake "alone" for "lonely". Many times the person alone is having the best time.

You would have to place them on a website, server, or photo sharing website. You would then link to them using the Insert Image button (yellow button that looks like mountains).

Here is the Fantasy at Costa Maya taken from Chac Chi.
