Tipping in the casino. How much is fair

I seem to "tip" the casino on every trip. The dealers and attendents are getting paid to do their job. Just because I may get lucky once in a while doesn't mean I have to have them share in it. If I am particularly pleased with a dealer's attitude and service, then they will get a small tip whether I am winning or not.

Since I never have needed and attendent to pay a slot payoff, I have no real feeling of what I might do there. Maybe I can win one of those for a change and then we'll see. :)

I spend a great deal of time in the casino when I cruise. I have always had good luck (knock on wood) and have ended up leaving with more than I started with at the end of the cruise. I have seen some amazing circumstances that resulted in no tip at all. I was at a craps table, my first time actually, and rolled 5 yo's (11) in a row on the come out. The gentlemen next to me had placed a $5 chip on 11 the first roll, $10 the second and third, and $25 on the fourth. I didn't realize what was happening until I was finished rolling the dice and looked over at the stack of $100 chips he had accumulated. In the end, no tip to the dealers and a thank you for me. I myself tend to tip if I get on a good roll at the craps table by placing a bet for the dealer or if I get a good hand at Let it Ride.

I very rarely tip until I am ready to leave the casino and only then if I am ahead. I can remember many times when I have tipped the blackjack dealer during the game, only to wind up losing for the evening and wondering why I gave all that money in tips and I am losing.

The casinos where I play, the dealers all pool the tips. If I tip a dealer that I like, it just goes into a pool and is spilt among all the dealers, even ones I have never seen. This practice does not seem right to me, but, on the other hand, it is not fair toi blame a particular dealer just becaue I am having a bad streak of cards.

By the way, when I do win, I usually tip about 10% of my winnings.
