Deep water is my biggest concern. Both my children are excellent swimmers but my son is a bit afraid of deep ocean water. He is 9y. How deep would you say the water is during snorkeling? Hard to say, but I think any deeper than 10ft and he might stay on the boat and just watch. He loves to snorkel and I would hate for him to miss anything. I assume the water is not that deep while with the rays. Thanks for any input.

Stingray City is on a large shallow sandbar (nice and soft sand) about average of 4 ft deep. It is about a 20 minute boat ride and a few miles off shore. You can just stand there and enjoy the activity without getting under water. Children were there with us. The reef we snorkelled at is close (a few minutes away) to the sandbar, and averages probably 10 ft deep or so. However, the fire coral and rocks at some places are close to the surface. They warn not to touch it , or you will suffer pain. It is rocky underneath the surface. They use the buddy system and will give instructions. My wife did not snorkel (she is not allowed to get water in her ears) . I did and enjoyed it . There were children that snorkeled close to the boat with the parents. Hope this helps.
