How much sleep do you get on a cruise?

I don't think I sleep that much on the cruise. I am a light sleeper and I feel the movement of the ship at night. I do better in the day when I can look out and see that everything is okay and I can sleep better. I don't sleep long in the daytime though.

My sleep time varies every night on the cruise. We usually eat late and go to the 2nd show and end up in bed around midnight. We'll sleep in if it is a sea day, but get up on port days. However, last year we did an eastbound transatlantic and losing that hour a day really confused my internal clock. Since I'm doing the same thing this year, I think I may have to try a set time for going to bed and getting up each day.

It depends on the itinerary - if we're in the Caribbean or Mexican Riviera, we go to bed late(1 or 2) and get up a little later (like 8AM). If we're in the Mediterranean, we try to get to bed earlier (like 11:30 or midnight) and get up around 6 in order to be ready for our shore excursions.

No matter what the itinerary, on sea days there are always nap times. We don't look at it as wasting vacation money by sleeping - we look at it as rejuvenating ourselves and appreciate having the opportunity to do so. Just my 2 cents worth from the "frozen tundra".

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

I've decided that part of the reason I like cruising so much is because I sleep so much better on the ship than I do at home. I don't know if it's the motion, or just knowing there's not housework and other chores to do, but I get LOTS of sleep on the cruise.

I remember one sea day in particular last November on the Jewel. We had about 7 hours sleep the night before. We ate breakfast, went out on the promenade deck, pulled a couple of deck chairs up and started to read. Within an hour, we were both napping. After lunch, we did the same thing and dozed for a short time period. After dinner, we went back to our cabin before the evening show, and I fell asleep again for about 30 minutes.

I've also been known to fall asleep in the nightly shows and up on the pool deck when the band starts playing. Best medicine for sleeping I ever found -- take a cruise and wake me up for meals :D .

I used to be able to stay up later on a cruise, even without a nap...but our last cruise, I swear I could not keep my eyes open--I was in bed by 10 almost every night; I never go to bed @ home til 11 or 11:30 and get up @ 6:30 for work. I swore my DH was drugging me so he could slip out to the casino more without me knowing it! The only thing I can think of was that I was so stressed out getting 4 of us ready to go (it's usually just DH & I) that I just crashed when I finally relaxed.

I have to say, while on our first cruise, our sleeping habits were different than they are at home. Myself, at home I LOVE to sleep in, but on the cruise I slept about 7-8 hours each night, but woke up during the night. I guess it was the excitement of the cruise and going to all of these new, warm and beautiful places I didn't want to miss anything. My husband on the otherhand, who at home is always GO GO GO! On the cruise Slept 8-10 hours plus a nap in the late afternoon. It was great to see him relax though! Depending on where you are going and the temp factors in on your tiredness too. We went to the Bahamas with RCCL (Cococay, Nassau) in Aug 06 so it was in high 80s, low 90s, a lot warmer than we are used to in Ohio. And we stayed very active during the day, so we crashed after dinner and a walk around the ship!
