Victory748 Posted April 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2007 Is it possible to do Tulum on our own? From my own experience the price of doing these tours with the ship is ridiculous vs what it actually costs. Would we save money by taking our own cab/ferry to Tulum? Is it even possible to do this? beachh2o Posted April 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2007 Hi-just remember Tulum is quite away from the Cozumel ship port. CARNIVAL will & does wait for "their" excursion tours to return but they DO NOT usually wait for anyone that is doing their own thing & is held up. Last year there were 8+ buses returning from a Panama City tour & we waited 2 hours. We have done our own thing-it depends on the country & the distance of travel involved. AuntieBon Posted April 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2007 I took the Carnival sponsored excursion last October and wouldn't recommend this one as a do it yourself tour. The distance and the time required to get there, back, and to walk around the ruins would make it too stressful for the average person. Better to spend the extra $$$ and do it with the ship. ShrinkinTexas Posted April 6, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2007 I am going to be on the Rhapsody the next week after you. I have been to Cozumel many times and am comfortable with the area. I have been to Playa this past year and don't forsee a problem. We are renting a car and going to Tulum ourselves. From what I've read, I think we will be ok. We will not be tendering. I have already reserved our car. We will make sure we are one of the first people off the ship. We're not going to "piddle around". Also, at the ruins, we are not going to swim. I think we'll be fine. If you do it, let me know how it goes.
