errie6 Posted April 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2007 Hi, I will be arriving in Rome on a Wednesday flight at around 5 pm and have to leave on Friday to go on a cruise. Is it beneficial for me to buy a BIRG ticket for 3 days? Will this get me from the airport to my hotel in the Pantheon area and also get me from Rome to Civitecchia? I read it's about 16 euros for 3 days...so trying to maximize my money. I wanted to use public transportation to get from the airport to my hotel instead of paying a costly shuttle/taxi for two people. Any advice? Thanks! grandmadarlene Posted April 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2007 We (myself and 4 grandkids) used these in Rome last year and were very pleased. We only needed the one day pass as that's all the ship was in port. We used them on the train into and out of Rome and on the Metro too. We had previously been warned off using them on the buses but only because the motor traffic in and around Rome is so thick. We did have to stand on the trip into Rome and the train was old, but the trip back was on a much nicer air-conditioned train. Hope this helps. Rare carlmm Posted April 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2007 Make sure you buy the right ticket. In my understanding the BIRG ticket is only valid for one day and it available for different regions. For example for one zone only it is € 2,50 while a ticket for five zones including Civitavecchia costs € 9,00. See the official webpage of the Roman public transportation http://www.atac.roma.it/biglietti/page.asp?p=1&i=&lng=2&tp=3&ID=16 An overview about different tickets available gives http://www.atac.roma.it/biglietti/index.asp?p=1&i=7&lng=2 The Leonardo Express from the Airport to Stazione Termini costs € 9,50. See http://www.trenitalia.com/en/treni_stazioni/trasferimenti/leonardo_express02.html Yet, even if the total price might be a bit higher than what you thought, public transportation is the most ecomomical way to travel in and around Rome.
