JStarbrite Posted April 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2007 I've never had a problem bringing one in checked luggage, but after 1st dive, it gets confiscated when re boarding the ship. Then it becomes a hassle retreiving it from pursers desk. This cruise, I think I am going to leave it at home, but worry about getting tangled in fishing line. What do you do? wnctarheel Posted April 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2007 Most places that you dive from a cruise will not have entanglement hazards, but what I do is just bring a pair of shears that I picked up at my local diive shop for about $6.

What do you do?The chances of getting tangled in fishing line in the Caribbean is small enough to be insignificant. I leave my knife at home and have never needed it for cutting in the Caribbean. I agree with wnctarheel, if you really think you need something for cutting, shears are the best choice, better than a knife anyway. dforeigner Posted April 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 8, 2007 You can purchase the same type of shears at your local EMS shop. Of course it will not include a sheath.
diverearl Posted April 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2007 If the blade is less than 2 inches the cruise line will not take the dive knife and this is plenty to solve any (or at least most) problems that will arise. earl
scubaran Posted April 9, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2007 Shears, the only way to go on a cruise ship. Randall
