Scarlotte Posted April 8, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2007 Where do the ships in Venice dock in relation to the grand canal and public transportation. We will be on HAL Veendam which will come into Venice at 7 p.m.-ish, before disembarking the next morning to return home. Is it possible (feasible) to get a vaporetto from the port into the grand canal? I can't imagine having to stay on the ship into the evening with that beautiful city so close at hand. Staying an extra day is not an option
cusyl Posted April 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2007 Your ship may have shuttle from the ship to St Marks square. There is a lot of information on this if you do a search of Venice on this same Med. board. It's quite a hike to walk.

Paul&Kathy Posted April 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 8, 2007 When we were in Venice on the Norwegian Jewel last summer there was a free shuttle bus from the port to Plaza Roma from where you can get on a vaporetto. They don't advertise it very well but it was there and ran quite frequently from the port car park. It did not seem to run in the evenings but we twice walked back from Plaza Roma to the ship and it only took about 15 minutes. Once we walked from Plaza Roma to Rialto then on to St Mark's square. It is all well signposted and took a couple of hours but we were wandering and looking in shops & churches along the way but we saw a completely different side of Venice from the tourist area around San Marco and would thoroughly recommend doing this if time permits. brian_uk Posted April 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2007 I think it depends on the Cruise Line. Princess offered a tender service.....Oceania did not. Brian
Scarlotte Posted April 9, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted April 9, 2007 I appreciate all the information. Mike that web site WAS very useful. It certainly looks easy to get to Pizalle Roma and the vaporetti.:)

franu Posted April 10, 2007 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2007 It seems to me that the cruise terminal runs the shuttle on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately although I will be there for three days, it will be none of the above. By all means take the opportunity to enjoy as much of Venice as possible.
