Directional Compass

Would a small directional compass work on the ship? Would be fun to use it, but didn't know if it would be affected by the steel/metal of the ship.

I think it would be fine. When we were on Celebrity's Galaxy, they have a huge compass in the ceiling in the grand foyer. My DH would just sit there and stare at it.....

There will be some effect from the steel of the ship - however, the magnetic deviation will be small, only a few degrees, usually less than 10.

 

Magnetic north and true north are not co-incidental - iif you are cruising south of Alaska, they can differ by 20 degrees, and this affects any compass in that part of the world, ship-board or not!
