doolange Posted April 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2007 Hello fellow cruisers!! I cashed in 30,000 points from my credit card and after this billing cycle I will have 5,000 more. This means $350 in credit. When I cashed in my points a few years back, they let me fax it and credit it right to my account. Now, they made me send in the coupon and when final payment day arrives I have to call and see if they received it (final payment is May 15th or so). So, what do they do, credit that money to my seapass account? I don't know why you can't use it towards your final deposit. Other credit cards would give you the cashback. It almost doesn't seem worth the hassle for next year. Any comments are appreciated.
pmshirl Posted April 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2007 I have never used my points for the onboard credit. I save them until I get the 125K pts and get the free fare for 2 cruise. I just cashed in 125K ( and yes I had to send in the coupon) for my june2 Liberty cruise and got $2500.00 taken off my invoice for that cruise. What difference does it make if they give you $300.00 onboard credit or let you use the $300.00 towards your final payment? Its $300.00 no matter which way you look at it. You can put your tips on your seapass ( if you feel you won't have $300.00 spent on your seapass to use up the OBC) and I also have heard that if you don't use all of your OBC it gets credited to your credit card. I know it can take people a long time to accumilate the 125K points , but IMO that is the way to get the most back from your points. Just think you just used 30K points and got $300.00 back for it, 30K x 4 is almost the 125K for the free fare for 2 (and if you find the right cruise that lowest oceanview fares are 1250.00 p.p. x 2 ) you would get $1200.00 total in onboard credits using your points the way you did, I got $2500.00 using the same points a different way. Good Luck , enjoy your cruise and OBC.
lauraapp Posted April 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2007 You can go into the casino and get cash, there is no charge for this. So if you are getting $350 sbc, ask for $350 cash in the casino, it is then debited from your account. I did that on our last trip.

Good Luck , enjoy your cruise and OBC. It looks like you had a recent and successful use of your 125K points. We have just reached 125K points and we are looking for the easiest way to burn the points. Were you able to use the certificate as a $2500 payment without regard to what cabin you booked? In other words, the typical OV costs far less that $2500 for a Caribbean or Mexican Riviera itinerary. We hoped to use the certificate toward payment of a JS, with us kicking in the $$$ difference. Did you book with RCI by phone? Any tips? Thanks. LL
