We were also told Oceania's fares are not upgradable, which tends to be the standard in the travel industry. We have cruised with many lines and taken land tours with Tauck, Vantage, Globus, etc. and have never been allowed to take their airfare and upgrade with points. We cab pay extra for business class, but it has always been too expensive.

On the last Oceania cruise, we booked our own air with points (90000 each for business class) and recieved an $800 per person credit from Oceania (plus the savings on the taxes).

On an Oceania cruise the previous year, we used their air, and paid for the deviation to fly in a few days early.

Penzance & Golfette, time difference, Germany 9 hours ahead of LA and Turkey 10 hours, however I don't know what the end of DST does. Like you we researched the flights and our TA confirmed that these were the best. She was able to contact "O" and get our deviation to this flight confirmed with seat assignments on April 1st which is 221 days before we leave. We weren't able to get seat assignments for the Frankfurt to Istanbul leg until we check in. We also have great flight arrangements on our return from Barcelona to LAX on Delta with all seat assignments.

 

Golfette, the Frankfurt airport is huge and there is plenty to see and do or you can grab a seat away from the traffic lanes and snooze.
