Another Tip Question...

Recommended Posts

Wow. M&M's! You do realize these ppl arent prisoners, they get out and I'll bet on payday they can get the regular size bag! I'll bet after the buck and mini M&M bag your bathroom gets cleaned extra well...with your toothbrush!

That is why they are ALL smiling. These ppl don't want candy, trinkets and a lock of your 1st born baby's hair, they work for $$ the same way you do.

I think you got out of bed on the wrong side. The poster said they tip (not everyone does) and gives the M&M's as something nice. I don't think that is condescending.

I have many friends who travel a lot and they frequently hand out lollipops to everyone they come into contact with. When one friend revisit places he is known affectionately as the lollipop man. Everyone runs to talk to him. Not because they get a lollipop but because he is a kind and thoughtful person who likes to make people smile.

I'm guessing the poster is the same kind of person.

Forgive me if I am repeating someone. The room service staff is also the dining room/buffet staff which is included in your $10 per day gratuities.

However, I still believe you should tip whomever brings your food to you. I tip any where from $2 to $5 depending on what we order.

I have also given M&M's to them as well. They were very apprecative for them. All the workers can't get off the ship at every port. Especially the ones that work in the dining/buffet areas. So this little jesture gives them something to snack on then or later. If they don't eat them they can give them to someone else who does. No matter what I bet they get eaten by a crew member.

that's a good idea i'm gonna bring little boxes of whitman's candy with me to give when i give the tip and i'm also going to give out two dollar bills :)

I think I have read $2 bills can be a problem in some places. I just bring singles and give 2 or 3.

  • 1 month later...

There's no problem giving chocolate IN ADDITION TO the tip; however, it'd be wrong to give chocolate INSTEAD OF the tip.

We had a bunch of one-dollar gold coins, which we thought would be fun for tips. Nope. These aren't widely used, and I'm not sure everyone recognized what they were. I think some people mistook them for quarters and thought we were being cheap. We tried to use them in the casino, but the cashier wouldn't trade them for dollars that'd go into the machines. I won't bother with special currency again!

This is a question we take to the desk right after the required lifeboat drill. Depending on the cruise line the policy on tipping is different.

The last time we were on Carnival we were told that room service was included and an additional tip was up to us. We always tip something.
