Lovinlife45 Posted April 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2007 I booked the Hotel Bauer thru Princess for our Venice to Fort Lauderdale Transatlantic in October 07. Has anyone stayed there? The reviews are great. But I was wondering if anyone has any informatoin about the transfer from the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the port. Also, was the breakfast included in the price we paid? Thanks for any info you can give me. Charlene
Taf Posted April 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2007 You have made a great choice! It`s a lovely hotel, although I haven`t stayed there myself - it`s a bit out of my price range. Usually the price includes breakfast, but I would check Princess. There are several ways of getting from the airport - the easiest (and the most expensive) is by water taxi from the airport - this will cost anything from 100 - 150 Euros to the hotel. Otherwise, you can get a taxi from the airport to Piazza del Roma (about 25 Euros) and either a Vaporetto or water taxi from there. The Vaporettos are like water buses, so you would have to get off at the nearest stop to the hotel - not door to door like a taxi. But you can buy a 24hr ticket for the Vaporetto for around 10 Euros and use it to get around Venice for the whole day. There is also a "meet and greet" service where someone will meet you at the airport, take you by car to P.d. Roma and then escort you by water taxi to the hotel. The hotel may even have a service that they use. To get to the ship, you will do the same in reverse - back to P.d. Roma and either a taxi or the free port shuttle bus to the ship. Have a great time in Venice!
Taf Posted April 17, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2007 Here is the website for the meet & greet service in Venice: http://venice.airports-shuttle.com It is also really easy to take a bus from the right outside the airport arrivals terminal, into P.d.Roma - this runs every 1/2 hr and costs € 3 per person. Piazza del Roma is the last land base before the islands of Venice - so all of the roads end there for buses, taxis & cars, and all of the water services start here for Venice - Vaporettos and water taxis. CruisinGerman Posted April 17, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2007 The Bauer is a lovely hotel -- but that usually refers to the part of the hotel that faces that canal that is referred to as "The Palazzo at The Bauer". The regular tour-group category rooms are usually in the front, modern part of the hotel -- and are fine but nothing special. You are probably paying nearly twice the cost of the room booking with the cruiseline rather than booking on the Leading Hotels of the World Website, Expedia or other sources. If you are willing to pay this extra money, you might want to consider seeking these other sources, or even sending an e-mail directly to the hotel, to try to get one of the Palazzo rooms. Kind regards, Gunther and Uta

Kind regards, Gunther and Uta That's not necessarily true, I priced the Princess Bauer Hotel package. It was more than I wanted to pay, but considering it includes all transfers - airport to hotel, hotel to pier, all luggage transfers - AND you pay Princess in US dollars, no credit card surcharges, the pricing wasn't that much more than booking everything independent. dbh62ark Posted April 17, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2007 We stayed at the Bauer three years ago and loved it. The location is great, and the rooms and hotel are very nice. The Bauer does have a private water taxi dock, and your fare from the airport should be around 90 Euros. We stayed at "The Bauer" and not at the Palazzo, so I can't comment on rooms in the Palazzo. Breakfast is usually included in your rate, but I would advise that you check in advance because if it is not included, it will be very expensive to eat breakfast at the hotel (although you will certainly have a lot of options for breakfast at other places in that area). My favorite hotel in Venice (we've stayed at at least a dozen there) is the Metropole, so check that one out. We are staying at the Locando Orseolo this year, so I reserve the right to change my favorite. :) Donna
