Getting Luggage to Ship in San Juan?

Recommended Posts

We'll be coming by taxi to our ship - are there porters or someone to help with our luggage when we exit the taxi at the pier? We'll have too much to carry/pull ourselves. Any info and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Oh yes, there will be plenty of porters around to help you with your bags and of course get a tip...It really pays to tip.

Do however make sure you have a driver that does not just dump you off, make sure it is in the area of the porters. I am sure they all do that, but if it is really crowded, you never know.

Yes, there will be loads of porters there to help unload your luggage from the taxi, make sure that everything is properly tagged, and put it in the bins for loading onto the ship.

Uh oh - any advice from previous San Juan departers? The book we got from the cruise line states 2pm is earliest we can board. I remember reading people talking about boarding at 11:30 a.m. Anyone know what time you can really start boarding? Also, is it safe to get back off ship for a couple hours to do some San Juan touring?

I believe all ships will allow boarding once the ship has been cleared and all previous passengers have departed. We have been on 13 cruises and except for the 1st one, have never missed lunch in the WJ.

You probably will not be able to go to your cabin until 1 or 1:30, but you can have lunch and you can get off the ship to explore SJ. Just make sure you are back well in advance of sailing.

Our 1st cruise was out of SJ back in 86 and we arrived at the ship w/in 1/2 hour of sailing....a lot of cancelled flights! Made for a long nervous day.
