Traveling with oxygen out of Long Beach

We'll be departing out of Long Beach on the Ecstasy next week.

 

My niece needs oxygen. She'll be traveling with several bottles and an "oxygen concentrator." The latter could roughly be described as about the same size as two tower PCs tied together though much heavier and with casters on the bottom. They have no intention of letting it out of their sight. (Let's face it: neither Carnival or the port authority will take any responsibility or accountability for it.) They're quite adept at rolling it distances (think Vegas parking structures through casinos then hotel corridors, easily 1/4 mile) so that "gang plank" in Long Beach would not be something they haven't handled before.

 

Does anyone have any experience/suggestions? Do they hand inspect the occasional object or are they totally inflexible about not letting you carry on anything that doesn't fit the 11"x17" opening? Anyone travel with a lot of bottles (not the BIG ones, but the kind that can be rolled around)?

I suggest you contact your travel agent about guest supplied oxygen equipment. They may only allow cruiseline approved suppliers in the local area.

We had the same issuse last year and you have to contact Carnival and let Guest Serives know what is going on and make sure that you have enough "extra" bottles. I was on 6-8 ltrs high flo and that is a TON bottles to carry around sinc eone would run out in about 45 min. I used Apria and they deliver to most places including the ship. The concentrator.....that may very well be a problem. On high flo the canula tubes I had had to be a minimum of 50 ft long because of the flo rate and I am not sure how you would take it around the ship....mine had to stay plugged in all of the time. There is another option.....there is a new oxygen delivery system...forgive me I can not remember the name of it but you can wear it on your belt and you charge it up off the concentrator.....it would work a lot better since one charge can hold up to 10 hours of O2. And that would make life a lot easier....all it should take for that is for the doctor to order it and the insurance company will pay for it.
