Wyndam Cable Beach Information

What are the hours for a day pass ?

My ship is there all day 8am to 5am (next day) ... so I was thinking maybe I can hit the beach at 9am to 1pm -- go back to the ship for lunch and come back to the beach around 3pm and chill at the pool till late 7pmish

The pools close around 5:30 or so, and they stack the chairs starting around 6 ish. You can enjoy the casino and restaurants with or without a pass.

Quite honestly, the hotel expects that cruisers will buy lunch and drinks on the premise. That's why they allow cruisers to visit in the first place.

Thanks Scubagirrl, might I ask, will there be taxis available at the Wyndam as well. Also, can we go over to Nassau hotel without a problem? many thanks.

taxi's are always available at the front door. Nassau Beach Hotel is a sister property and you can use thier facilities also. They have a much nicer beach.

Do you know how late in the day the jitneys run?

I've stayed at this Wyndham many times.

The semi-official  schedule ends at 6pm, but the hotel staff have always advised us to be "out at the road and ready" no later than 5:30 pm, unless you're prepared to pay for a taxi. We've never tried to ride after 5pm.

Have exact change ready, $1 pp (US or Bahamian currency) from downtown to the Wyndham, and pay as you exit.

I've heard that the jitneys are privately owned & operated, so rigid schedule enforcement may not be in effect if the driver feels like calling it a day a little early.

If you don't get your fill of gambling at the Crystal Palace, you could always try to catch a jitney right at 6pm

i've been to cabbage beach 2x and took a cab. i want to check out cable beach this next time (i think they are close to each other?) and i've read to take the #1 jitney and it will drop me off at the wyndam.

i dont want to pay for the beach though, just want to go to the free part. will i have access to a free beach from where the #1 jitney drops me off?

Ask them to drop you at Saunders Beach.. don't know if they will stop nearby, it's a dangerous bend in the road with high traffic.. so you may have to walk back a bit.

Since Hotels line most of cable beach, there really is no accent point to the free beach (saunders beach) except to hope over the wall at the roadway. At this point of the beach, the water has an undertow and there are NO amenities at all.. the beach is not maintained either.

Walking along the beach, you'll pass breezes, nassau Beach hotel and then the Wyndham. each of which you'll need a day pass to enjoy the facilities.

I think you want the #10 Jitney.

I'm a little confused though, are you saying you want to go to Cable Beach, but not pay the $15 ?

Saunders Beach = free

Cable Beach = not free

The money is used to clean up the mess left by the previous day's visitors. Trash in the water/on the beach is definitely a major factor in my beach choice. To each their own.

ok so all cable beaches cost money right because there are hotels around them?

i think its best we stick with saunders then then, because we want to go somewhere free. we wont be at the beach all that long (maybe stay from about 2-5pm)

so is saunders the one where they drop you off on the side of the road and you walk up a hill and then down to get to the beach? the hill has lots of trees and a little path? if so, then thats probably where i was before.

Of course, you could always take the jitney for just $1 pp. Leaves from nearby George Street and drops you across the street from the Wyndham entrance. The #10 jitney runs every few mins. from downtown to Cable Beach and back. Never more that a 5 min wait.

Thanks Scubaggirl! we did just that, unfortunately it rained that morning and we couldn't decide whether to stay as the lovely lady at the front desk thought it may rain all day. Boy did it pour downtown!! but we lucked out Mr. Sunshine was out after 2pm. One day we will go back to the Wyndam, and yes, it was $15 per person - the fun part was that we got to see and ride on the #10 Jitney, (nice guy too, stroller & all) with some of the locals, my kinda trip. thanks again.

Happy Independence, got a lovely T-shirt for the grandbaby commemorating the event.

No Saunder Beach is a little stretch of native beach along the highway on west bay street. Nothing much around it. It's not used much and has an undertow, so be careful when swimming. The Jitney should be able to stop nearby. Goodmans Bay is just a little further around the bend. Again, nothing but some coral outcroppings and some sand.

Since both of these beaches are used for partying, and there's no "clean up" crews, it's likely to find broken bottles or other debris, so please be careful. You may be the only people on either of these beaches.

here's a map

http://www.bahamasgp.com/islp-map-cable-e.html

The beach you described is on Paradise Island (no jitney service, so you have to take a cab or ferry and walk the rest of the way). It's free, and you'll find other people there as well.

:) We recently got back from a day stopover at Nassau and tried the Wyndam day pass. Yes, it's the #10 jitney (bus). We got on at George Street with a very friendly elderly driver who seemed to know everyone. $1 per person each way, payable when you exit. It was about a 15-20 minute ride. From what we heard, the most important standard piece of equipment on vehicles there is the horn.

There were 5 of us (3 adults and 2 kids). Somehow we only paid $60 using cash and travelers checks. Maybe it was because the big pool slide was closed for repairs. You get towels, loungers, bathrooms by the pool and there were some inside, too, by some conference rooms. There were jet skis, parasailing and a guy with a small motor boat trying to get a group to go snorkeling at a nearby island. Guy on the beach selling drinks in a coconut shell for $5. The hotel had food and drinks inside and out by the pool. There was ping pong, a pool table, and a basketball hoop outside just before the pool. I think it was out from a neighboring hotel beach (the desk clerk said there were three properties we could use -- the beaches all seemed to run together) -- a bunch of rocks you could walk/wade to that had schools of tropical fish. The Wyndam had a kind of small lagoon beach. Next to that were the "real" beaches -- all nice powdery white sand. It thundered and crackled after a few hours and we got whistled out of the pool, but not the beach/water. The #10 again to town --the driver saw us at the top of the hotel drive and I guess by instinct waited for us til we got down to the street. It was a little slower going back at mid-afternoon. :)

Thanks for posting the pictures.:D I was wondering what this location beach looked liked. I called them to confirm the price today and was told 15 per adult and 8 per child under 10. The conceirge confirmed this for me. I'm just hoping when I get there there won't be a switch-o-roo number:rolleyes:

I answered my own question, so I thought I would share. Below are pictures from trip advisor. Plus I read that there is a smaller straw market across the street and a really good fresh daquiri stand. Seems like a possible spot for me!!!

I've been reading the threads, I get it that I can pay a dollar for the jitney, and that it cost 15 bucks a person and that they have 3 properties to use. I am also sure these questions have been asked but I didn't see anything on here about them. Does anyone know what a jet ski would rent for at the wyndham. Would also appreciate if someone could give me a better idea of exactly what is offered here, I ve read watersports, to include the jet skis, I assume there are rafts, etc, would also like a better breakdown of whats for lunch and how much it cost. Do they do conch fritters here also? Do people use the casino in attire for the pool and beach area or is it frowned upon. Is there enough shopping in the immediate are to occupy the wife or will we need to leave early enough to make the straw market. And so I dont sound any more stupid than usual the place is pronounced the "wind um" isn't it, as in the wind that blows plus an um, not the wind as in to wind somthing up. Thanks for any help.

There is a small version of the downtown straw market directly across the street from the Wyndham, also there is an indoor shopping mall connecting the Casino with the hotel to the west.

Jet ski's are not rented by the hotels, there are locals who pull up with their jet ski's for rent. You'll generally need to haggle.

I can't help you on the menu, we've usually gone next door to Sbarro's for lunch. They have a surprisingly expanded non-italian menu at "normal" (non-resort) prices.

We were there last week. Wave runners were available right on the beach for $70 a half hour. Banana boat rides were $15 per person.

In the pool were 5 or 6 yellow inner tube rafts. They were just floating around to use. I don't know if the hotel throws them in the pool or people rented them and left them there...but we used one and left it in the pool when we were done.

There is a restaurant right next to the pool where you eat outside. The menu was mostly burgers, sandwiches and wraps. Most were $9.50 for each. Only the burgers came with fries. We also ordered conch fritters $6.50 (I think) and the conch salad (9.50). Sodas were $2. Frozen drinks were like 7, 9, and 11 dollars depending on what size you wanted. They came is souvenir glasses to keep.

Right inside the hotel is a Starbucks. Next to that is the Casino. It looked quiet during the middle of the day.

Don't know too much about shopping. We took a cab to/from the hotel to the Cruise ship terminal. It was $5 per person, each way. Email me at jc811@yahoo.com for pictures or additional questions.

I don't shop much on vacation, so I can't help you there. You might want to start a new thread with this question. It's likely to be buried here in the Wyndham discussion. ;) :)

I read where there is a swim up bar in one of the pools. Does anyone know if this is a fact and if so are their little stools to sit on in the water? Is it a small area or can you have as many as 10-15 people at the bar without being to crowded?

I also read someone posted about a month ago that the main pool was closed for repair. Does anyone know if the repairs are done? I am going to be in Nassau in late September.

The pool was open when we were there last week.

I just did a full review with pictures of the swim up bar at this link:
