Love Cruis'n Posted April 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2007 Does anyone know where the “Rome on your own” tour drops you off in Rome? We were thinking of using that to get to/from Rome, and using the ‘Hop On Hop Off’ bus to get around in Rome, but don’t know how easy / difficult coordinating that would be. Really want to keep it simple – would prefer to avoid taking the metro, etc. Thanks.:)

It´s real simple and easy. The train station is about a ten minute walk from the port entrance (ship to port entrance has a free shuttle running). The trains run frequently throughout the day and it´s about 8-10 Euro roundtrip per person. It´s a nonstop connection and about an 1 - 1hour15 ride. You can get off at various stops throughout Rome, like vatican city, however if you ride to Statione Termini (Main Station) where the train ends, the hop on/off busses are just outside. From saving money it´s also faster as the bus will probably be stuck in some traffic.
travellgirl Posted April 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 30, 2007 We will be doing the "Rome on your Own" in a few weeks. We did it two years ago on Celebrity, but I understand the drop off point is about the same. They dropped us off at right near St. Peter's Square. I have to say last time we did not leave the Vatican the entire day; there was so much to see there. This time we are venturing into Rome to see the tourist sights, eat a nice lunch and just walk around the city. The bus ride is about 90 minutes. English Jane Posted April 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2007 We were dropped off in the side street immediately to the left of the Vatican (as you look at in from the front) if you see what I mean. It was very central.
