Did you really cancel your cruises?

Yes, I did. All the one nighters I had booked.

Why should I pay the premium rate because I booked early for these.:mad:

Some of them in Late September and early October have already dropped over $100-

I'm so tired of fighting with NCL over why they dont let the early bookers be allowed to be upgraded without 3 hour converations with reps and TA's.

Oct 26th.

The price for an inside is up to 399pp / we got 299pp in November/dec 06 when we booked.

I think we paid $429 for a balcony/now its $429. Usually they go UP and sell out/ or close out of NY.

I guess supply and demand.

That cruise will NOT come down because the Repo is right after it. I have a lot of friends doing both. So the supply and demand for the 2 day is a lot higher.

I didn't know they were one nighters. I thought you cancel full length cruises. I do agree about booking last minute now on the one nighters. But last year my October did sell out and increased as it got closer. I am taking a risk also. I am in the Garden Villa this weekend and I can not compare what could of because it probably would have never been available now.

I think the price might come down because everyone wanted in because it was suppose to be the last time the Dawn would ever be in New York. Now that it's coming back next year, the 2 nighter is not so special anymore.

 

I 'll be looking at the last minute again for the October cruise but I don't think that I'll ever get $200 for 1 nighter BA balacony for two people like I got yesterday for this Friday night again.

This is nothing new to NCL whether it is a one nighter or a full cruise. They have never ever been proactive as far as extending current reductions to already booked customers, nor is it realistic to expect it to happen. It would be far too much work to upgrade 500 or 600 pre-booked passengers everytime the price changes downward. Prices fluctuate as the cruise gets closer, and it's always a gamble to book early or late. For example, yesterday you could get 59 dollars, but today it seems back up to 79 for Friday. If you booked earlier at a higher rate, unfortunately your only choice is to cancel and rebook, or live with what you have.

 

If you have alot of flexibility, you can always gamble, but realize that in some cases, it may not turn out like this weekends one day cruises have. In some cases I am certain the prices will go up if the ship is close to being full. Simply put, it's the case of the cruise line wanting to fill the ship as the departure date approaches.

 

I paid more than what I can buy it for today for Saturday's one night cruise, but I'm not gonna gripe about it, I still feel I got a fantastic deal. I certainly would spend more on land for a night in NYC with a room, 5 course dinner, shows, breakfast and entertainment.

 

As for future one nighters, I will certainly wait a bit and see what happens to price as future dates get closer. Booking now seems like a gamble for any of the future days.

This is so true, you would think that booking with the cruiseline would put you at the front of the line. But it seems it isn't so. I found something interesting with your post, I paid $99 and the taxes were only $39 dollars.

 

The tax calculation make no sense to me, can someone elaborate the tax and goverment charges.

So... if you can't see the value of the following versus a Saturday Afternoon/Saturday Evening out on the town, I would be a little perplexed:

 

Here's what you get for your $79 PP or $158 for two:

 

1.) Lunch (if desired) - in fact food ANYTIME you want (see Blue Lagoon or buffet or casino)

2.) Use of all facilities of the ship if desired... (pool, hot tubs, whatever)

3.) 5 course dinner in variety of venues.

4.) Entertainment (Shows, or dancing, live music, casino, and various other activities)

5.) One night's accomodations

6.) Breakfast

 

This is not reasonable to you? Sounds like a deal to me. I am certain I've paid that and then some on occasion for an over-night weekend.

It's all what you make it... if your in bed by 9 PM, then I'd say stay home.

Yours is exactly the same for taxes as mine was only my fare was 10 dollars more per person at the time I booked, hence our total was exactly 20 dollars more.

As I said up front, cliff, if you can board early it might be worth it to me to pay the $158 plus taxes for two. So thanks for answering that question.

 

As for all the rest of the fabulous features:

--Casinos are not something passengers pay for the use of. They're something the cruiselines pray we'll use.

--Onboard entertainment is, with few exceptions, mediocre--it's fine for longer cruises but not something I'm going to rush out of Manhattan's extraordinarily good entertainment venues (quite a few of them free or low-cost) to seek on a cruise ship (!)

--We aren't going to stuff our faces at Blue Lagoon or the buffet between meals just to stretch a buck. Nice to know you can have a leisurely lunch in the dining room upon boarding, though.

--Breakfast is always nice, but docking at 7 a.m. means it's not going to be a relaxed one.

 

Using the pool deck (I'll skip the warm pee tubs) all afternoon with a New York view behind it is an attraction, however. And as I said, it's cheaper than a Manhattan hotel room, and we've always found NCL's non-buffet food to be delicious. So if it's not rush onboard at 3 or 4 p.m., rush off at 7 or 8 a.m., it seems a little more reasonable.

I was wondering from aceparty about the discrepancy. If they lower the fare and charge more tax, its not really that much of a difference for some. Or is norweigan charing the late bookers more government tax and fees for another reason?

We also just booked the May 4th cruise for $59pp, but only paid $39 each for taxes for a total of $196. I think they may have gotten you on the trip insurance. They tried to get me on it, but I said no thank you. Unless you wanted it (maybe you're more responsible than me), you may be able to call back and tell them you don't need it or didn't realize you got it... Just a thought. Still a fabulous deal though. We are very excited!!!

I didn't get a fantastic deal by booking so early. The weekend cost me over $1000- for an inside cabin. I live so close to the pier, that I will wait until price drop to book again, if not, no loss either. ;)

They did get me, my guest fare is $158.00 and government taxes/fees $78.62 for a total of $236.32. My PCC broke it down telling me $59 fare Gov. & Taxes $39 and $10 to? I thought she said security fee .????:confused:
