Smoking policy on the Conquest?

OK...before I start...this is not intended to open a debate about the dangers of smoking or second hand smoke. I am a smoker and know the dangers and try to be as courtious as possible around non smokers.

That being said, does anyone know what Carnival's smoking policy is on their ships, specificly, the Conquest. I checked their site and can only find info in the Paradise.

I am assuming there are some smoking areas on the ship since I have read many posts about cruisers buying cigars in port and smoking them on the ship on the last night. Anyone know if smoking is allowed in the staterooms? If so, do you have to request a smoking room, like some hotels do now?

Just curious

Thanks

I'm not a smoker, but here's what I remember from seeing others. First, I think they may have some non-smoking rooms, but in general, I think smoking is allowed in staterooms.

The only places I remember being specifically non-smoking are the lounge and the dining rooms. I think it just about every other public area, smoking is allowed.

As far as I know, there are no cabins designated non-smoking. I am a light smoker and extremely courteous of other folks. I do smoke in my cabin, but am very aware of where my lit cig is at all times! I take a small can of room spray so as not to stifle the cabin steward.:) The Lido Deck has signs posted - one side is smoking, the other is non. That is around the pool area.

Most areas of Carnival ships are non-smoking. The main lounge, dining rooms, public restrooms, art auction, tea-time - all non-smoking.

Common sense dictates that you not smoke while waiting for an elevator, as there is usually a crowd. Not only would it be an irritant, somebody could be burned in close proximity. Get this: On one of my cruises, a man entered the elevator with a lit cigarette. I pushed the 'remain open' button and asked him to get off with his cigarette. I was applauded. He refused to get off, so the rest of us did. I'm sure he was pleased with himself to have the entire elevator. (There's one in every crowd.)

The Conquest actually has more non-smoking are than some of the other ships. The atrium lounge for instance is mostly non-smoking. The bar, center seating (near the piano directly behind the glass elevators) and one side is non-smoking. One side of the ship is smoking. Of course dining rooms are non smoking. Lounges and casino are smoking. I can't remember the name of the lounge where afternoon tea was served but during this time the lounge was non-smoking. One side of the lido deck is non-smoking. I think that pretty much covers it.

thanks for the info.

I figured there would be many non areas. Mainly wanted to see if I needed to request a smoking room.

And just for the record...you will never see me enter an elvator with a lit cigarette...that's just downright rude.

Hi Txflood3,

I just got back from the Conquest, Carnival do seem to be making a effort to make more areas non-smoking. As mentioned the main atrium area now has just a single small area on the port side (Left side when facing forward) were smoking is allowed and with no smoking at the bar. On the Lido deck and above smoking in on the starboard side of the deck. The main walkway thru the ship is now completly non-smoking and all of the tables and chairs are marked. At the Casino half the bar is non-smoking. All other bars allow smoking. All enclosed areas that serve food are non-smoking. (So the Lido Cafe etc.) What they really should do is change the Lido and above decks to smoking on the port side (Left side) That way the non-smoking areas on all decks match. I'm a smoker so I was a little put out about the atrium bar now being non-smoking (Especially seeing how open the area is with the vertical rise, used to be my favorite bar to sit at before dinner.)

Personnely I want to push any smoker overboard who smokes in an elevator or when walking on the decks were cabins are located, as you said its just downright rude.

Carnival may have changed their smoking policy fleet wide, but when I was on the Conquest a little over 2 years ago smoking was allowed almost everywhere except the dining room & theatre. Was definitly allowed in your cabin. Actually I was surprised at all the smoking areas & I saw more smokers that I had in a long time. No one smoking in restricted areas, but just lots of people smoking in designated areas. When I cruised the Spirit this past December there was no smoking anywhere in the atrium area and it was allowed in only one of the bars, out on deck, in the casino & in your cabin.
