Good hotels 4 star or 5 star in Rome, Barcelona

Recommended Posts

Last year we stayed at the Hotel Rafael in Rome right at the Piazza Navona. Lovely hotel and fantastic location within walking distance to everything. The year before we stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental at the top of the Spanish Steps. Again a great location. Rome is great. Just make sure you get a hotel that is within walking distance to everything.

We just returned from Barcelona - 3 nights after BOS transatlantic. We stayed at the Hotel Royal which is right on La Rambla, just a few steps south of the Placa Catalunya . I believe it's a 4 star hotel, we were on the 1st floor (actually the 3rd), overlooking La Rambla. We LOVED the location and with the double windows, there was no street noise. The room wasn't wonderful, the lighting was bad for make-up, we had twin beds, a small round table and two chairs, enough hanging and shelf space, a small refrigerator, a nice but small bathroom with a good tub/shower combination. The personnel at the front desk were very helpful. Of course there's sometimes a language barrior but lots of smiles help. But the best was being able to sit by the window with a glass of wine and watch all the goings-on on the Rambla. Our cost 4/29-5/1 was 160 Euros per night. And again, the location was fantastic.

For Barcelona - I recommend Le Meridien - it is right on Las Ramblas.

It's a block from the Gothic quarter and about 2 blocks from the hop-on hop-off tourist bus.

It definitely is a beautiful hotel and the rooms were just remodeled in the past 2 years.
