Snorkeling in Costa Maya?

I'm looking for a good independent snorkel tour while docking in Costa Maya. I would love to find something with a catamaran ride to the snorkel site. Has anyone been on any snorkeling tours that you would recommend? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

We just got back from Costa Maya on Friday. I was looking for the same type of thing before going and we ended up going to the Maya Palms Resort www.mayapalms.com

We had bad luck because it was very windy there on Friday, and the waves were rough, so we didn't go snorkeling. However, this place is supposed to have the best reef in the area, according to the owner of the hotel (an American from St. Louis), as well as from reading many different reviews here on cruiscritic.

The resort is only 400 yards from the reef and they will take you out on their own boat for 2 hours of snorkeling. We were disappointed that we were not able to go out, and we are sure we missed some excellent coral and fish. There was a group of scuba divers who went out Friday and said that the waves were so rough that the visibility was not good.

The resort offers a snorkeling/resort pass for the day. You can use their pool and lay on the beach, and also opt for the food and beverage package as well. We enjoyed our day here, even without the snorkeling because we were away from the masses and could just relax. There were about 10 other people there from the ships as well.

The resort is very nice. Don't go there expecting a luxury resort like in the US. The place is very laid back and has great authentic, rustic charm. I know if we had been able to snorkel there, it would have been the highlight of the trip.

Check it out.

When our snorkeling excursion was cancelled at Maya Palms they would not issue a refund (even though as we were leaving I was told it would be done). I would stay far away from that place. It is also not cheap to get there and the beach isn't very nice.
