Silver Whisper

We are thinking of cruising on the Silver Whisper in August. We would leave from Venice ending in Rome. We've never cruised on the Silverseas before. We've been on the Windstar, is this ship similar in service to the Silversea? What is the problem with the restaurants. I would think the food and service would be great. Should we book it??

There is nothing at all "wrong with the restaurants" on the Silver Whisper or the Silver Shadow (or the other Silversea ships); they are all quite good, excellent by cruise ship standards. A few posters are (unreasonably) upset because La Terrazza limits reservations, while others just don't like it. Others don't like the extra charge for the French restaurant. Everyone agrees that the main restaurant is very good.

I've been on all the SS ships and the food has always been quite good. Some meals are better than others but I've never had an meal where I couldn't find anything that I wanted to eat. The only complaint that I've had is that after 14 days or so the breakfast menu gets boring. Perhaps some international dishes would spice it us.

Hi Aldrin,

I have had the pleasure of sailing on Silversea and Windstar. Both were in Europe.

If you liked Windstar, you will love Silversea.

Silversea is more formal. Depending on which Windstar ship you sailed on, Silversea may be slightly larger. As I'm sure you know, Silversea is all inclusive. There is no signing for beverages. This is really nice.

I personally enjoyed the food on both lines. The staff, spa, casino, officers were fabulous on both.

We are sailing on Windstar in September and back to Silversea in '08.

I hope some of this information helps.

We sailed Windstar twice last year and Silverseas once about 5 years ago, we are booked on the Whisper in December. We were very disappointed with the dinning service on Windstar, there was open seating but, they could never get their act together in the evenings,we will not book Windstar again.
