lmondrop Posted August 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2004 What would happen if a tropical storm or hurricane were to hit our port of call? Would they give us an extra day at sea? Or re-route to another island?
pungo3 Posted August 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2004 It really depends on where you are and how close another island might be (with room for an unscheduled ship to dock or tender). I'd love to have the extra sea day myself. You might hear plenty of complaints by folk having the "storm" mess up their plans, but maybe not. Carnival will do the best they can for you. Have fun and don't worry.
lmondrop Posted August 10, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Thank you! I certainly woulnd't mind the extra day at sea. Either way I'm just happy to be on the boat. But it would be nice if we could go into another port. Thanks for your help!!
CanTex Posted August 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Maybe put some kind thoughts aside for those whose home is in that area... you're likely not going to be impacted anywhere near as much as they will be.
lmondrop Posted August 10, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Well I live in Miami so believe you me that I have been and probably will continue to be impacted just as much as they will and have been. But my thoughts are with those people haveing gone through storms myself.
CanTex Posted August 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Yes, I too have lived in an area of the Gulf Coast that receives its share of TS and hurricanes so I know firsthand how devastating these storms are. An itinerary detour -- if necessary -- is a risk you take when cruising at this time of year.
dan40 Posted August 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Chances are if a hurricane hit one of your upcoming ports of call while you're at sea, your cruise would have already been completely re-routed. Your scenario would have your ship too close to a hurricane path and ships sail away from possible problems. Many times cruises have shifted from eastern to western routes [and vice versa] due to a storm's potential path. Most likely effect of a hurricane is an itenerary change due to damage a port has suffered in recent weeks. As the port would be concerned with repairs, not entertaining guests. lmondrop Posted August 10, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted August 10, 2004 If you read my thread live from Carnival Triumph, you'll get the answer as our ship is currently being diverted due to t/s Charlie. redneck_dan Posted August 10, 2004 #13 Share Posted August 10, 2004 Running away from a hurricane or tropical storm is not a fun cruise. There is too much motion in the ocean.
