Switzy Posted May 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2007 We are looking at a snorkel trip which definitely goes to Molokini on the morning excursion, but for the afternoon may opt to go to Coral Gardens instead, depending on trade winds. The afternoon is less expensive (like 1/2 the price!) because it doesn't include continental breakfast, and is 1 1/2 hrs shorter. Anyone have feedback on whether Coral Gardens could be a disappointment from Molokini?
Hilary Posted May 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2007 The reason the afternoon trip is cheaper is because in Hawaii the trade winds kick up at around noon and make the water very rough and choppy. Everyone discounts afternoon charters for this reason. Getting back on the boat can be difficult and there's definitely more rocking and rolling on the water once the trades kick up, so personally, I'd avoid an afternoon excursion on the ocean.
