pem Posted May 15, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2007 We went to Stingray City/wall combo, later lunch at Colony Beach before and enjoyed it. We love snorkeling/beach/boat but would like suggestions not including Stingray City. Catamaran cruise ? Snorkel north island ? There are excursions Kaibo Yacht Club, or Spanish Bay Reef Resort. Can anyone help?:)
cvschmitt Posted May 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2007 We just returned from snorkeling in Georgetown, GC. There are several web sites that inform you of snorkel sites you can walk to. We tried Eden Rock and we were not disappointed. We were tendered in and it was a short walk to the right. It was like swimming in an aquarium. We have our own equipment, but you can rent from there and there is also a restaurant. We tried walking to the other locations that were to the left, but they seemed a little too remote. No one else was snorkeling there so we were a little leary. However, Eden Rock was very popular. There was a strong current that day, but if you stayed along the shore line, it was fine. We had a great time there -- saw many types of fish. First time we ever snorkled with tarpon!
scubaran Posted May 18, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2007 If you want a quiet place to snorkel on GC, you can go to Sunset House Resort. They have a dive shop with lockers for rent while you're snorkeling and rent snorkel equipment as well. Sunset House has a "house reef" right on the shore in back of the resort that is accessed by a ladder on a concrete pier that juts out into the shallows of the reef (easy in/out). There's no charge to snorkel and there's lots of coral and fish in the reef. If you need a guide, you can contact the dive shop and they can arrange a "snorkel master" to snorkel with you otherwise you're on your own. To get to Sunset House, it's best to take a taxi as it's about a mile from the cruise docks (thus a lot less crowded than Eden Rock) and to get back just grab a taxi out front or if there isn't one, ask the dive shop to call you one (takes about a minute for one to show up). Also when you're done, Sunset House has one of the nicest oceanside outside bars for a drink to relax and dry off. You can get all the info you need by visiting their website, www.sunsethouse.com, or call the dive shop. BTW, of course I don't work for them or get any money for promoting them, just think it's a great place to snorkel and dive. :O) Randall
jennifer.c21 Posted May 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2007 On May 1st we went snorkeling with Ebanks Watersports. Shawn, the owner, picked us and only one other couple up at the Hard Rock and we basically had a private snorkeling tour to Coral Gardens and the reef. We were on a double waverunner and Shawn led in a single waverunner. It was really awesome. It was rough that day which made the ride pretty bumpy, but other than that we loved it. It was a two hour tour, very personalized. Check them out. The price was a little expensive, $150 total for the two of us, but well worth it in my opinion. Stevesan Posted May 20, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2007 A good solution is to book Capt Marvin. Snorkel at the first two stops, Coral Gardens and Barrier Reef, then stay in the boat and chill out at Stingray City.:) Eden's Rock is a good suggestion, too. They have rental lockers and gear as well as a rinse tank. It's good snorkeling. I've seen a number of divers enter from there.
