Grandeur San Juan to Baltimore, quick review

Recommended Posts

Arrived a day early in San Juan, stayed at the Sheraton (in old San Juan) hotel was clean, staff was friendly, restaurant was good.

Friday, afternoon had an island resident, (friend) give us a driving tour of the island, rain forest etc: was very nice and having a local "tour guide" was a big plus.

Saturday morning checked out, had the bell man hold the luggage while we did a walking tour of old San Juan, went up to the fort, on the way back stopped at Walgreens, picked up some esentials ie: Pepsi and other items not worth packing for the flight down, returned to the hotel picked up luggage, taxied to the ship. ($21 which included tip, four passengers)

Arrived at the ship around 2:PM, did the check-in and was on board within 20 mins.

This being our 2nd time on the Grandeur, we noticed the cleaner look, the new bedding, a lot of fresh paint, no dent, the Windjammer was remodeled, it look's like the Enchantment's.

The ports were St. Thomas, St. Marteen, Tortola, (BVI) CoCo Cay, and Grand Bahama, Will only comment on the negative ports: Tortola was not very impressive, store owners appeared uppity, the area near the port and in the small shopping area was kind of dirty. Grand Bahama, stayed on the ship we have been there before and didn't miss anything.

There is my quick review.

Congrats on your Platinum pins! We sailed on Grandeur last fall on the 13 day repo to NOLA. WHAT A CRUISE!!! We were with the mostest fun crowd ever. Participated in three NOLA Mardi Gras parades on board, in which one I was chosen King of the Mardi Gras. Met many great people from Ontario (Ed and Linda), Akron (Sally and Joe), NOLA (Charles and June) and Heidi and Jill and Brynn and more . . . Hey, anyone who is interested in Grandeur - you can't go wrong.

Hi all! Hubby and I are a couple of the great people that Pumbaamd referred to from the 13 day repo to NOLA. :) It was indeed a most fun crowd!

The Grandeur was fabulous, the service was great, everything made for a wonderful cruise.

We would go on her again in a heartbeat!

We too were on this cruise. The time in dry dock was time well spent - the ship looked fresh and the bedding was superb. Well OK, the duvet was a bit heavy both in weigh and warmth.

We had a great time on Tortola . . . very friendly taxi driver to the beach. It is a very scenic island, I only wish we had a longer stay so that we could have gone over to Virgin Gorda on our own istead of just a beach day.

I can't say enough about the service on board . . . friendly and accommodating.

We were also on that cruise and had a blast! First time on Grandeur so I cannot comment on the updates as far as the windjammer goes, but everything looked very clean. The duvet was very heavy and we never used it. Our steward finally just took it off of our bed because every morning it was on the floor. One negative thing was the air conditioning. It seemed like the entire ship was very warm. Our cabin was warm and we were sleeping with nothing or maybe just the sheet.

Embarkation was very easy. We landed in San Juan at 1:10 p.m. and by 2:15 we were in the windjammer having lunch. Less than an hour to get our luggage, get a taxi and get on board.

The ports were great. We did private excurions in St. Martin, St. Thomas and Tortola. We did do a ship excurion in Freeport Bahamas which was basically a tour around the island, stopped at a few different places to shop, and then to a beach (there was a big resturant/bar type place and shoping there also).

The staff was great. Our waiter Domingo and assistant Ana were fantastic. The cruise director staff was also fantastic. Irkey from Turkey was so funny! He hosted Karakoe Idol.

The shows were okay. We didn't see them all, but the ones we did see were okay.

AND, when we board in San Juan, they were selling alcohol right there where you check-in, and two people in our party bought the liquor and carried right to their room. No smuggling, no nothing., they were allowed to bring it on board right to their room.
