Dock or tender

I will be on Rhapsody Of The Seas Dec 29 2007 sailing from Singapore. Does anyone know if the ports of Phuket and Penang are Dock or tendered and also how far from the main towns. I know that Port Kelang (KL) is about 1 hours drive from main town. I like to do my own thing and only problem is knowing if I need transport from port or if it walking distance. RCL have a city tour into KL which provides transport each way so no probs there. Thanks in advance

We travelled on the Superstarship Virgo on The Straits of Malacca Cruise and we did a tender transport to Penang. I cannot remember whether we did a tender at Phuket ,but I know that we did a tour to James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay from Phuket City (not Beach) which was about an hour or so away from therewhich was heaps of fun.

The dock is a long trip from KL - interesting but it does eat into the experience. Hope this helps.

Several years ago we joined the Superstar Gemini in Phuket and it was definitely docked. We called at Penang and again it was docked - in fact the only place we tendered on that cruise was Pankor. In Penang we walked out of the dock and there were rickshaws and taxis waiting. We took a taxi tour for the day which was excellent and I don't think it was very far to the town as we got to see about 3 or 4 temples and a monkey park as well as a couple of shopping stops. I really can't remember about Phuket as we had a coach transfer but I don't think the dock was so close to the town there.
