Calicruiser101 Posted May 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2007 My family, (sister and her family, parents) are sailing on the Pride in July. She is turning 40 in June and we are having a party to celebrate. Guests have asked what to get her and I suggested Fun Ship $$, however, I have never used them before and I am not sure how exactly they do work. I went to the website to investigate but there is not much information. I gather they are sent to your house as it does have shipping address information. But what exactly can they be used for? Can you pay for drinks with them, use them to pay the fee for David's Supper Club, giftshop, pay off your sign and sail card, excursions?

Once put on an account as Onboard Credit, could be applied towards any of the above items you mention. (Can be added to your S&S account at the pursers desk while passenger is onboard) Or someone could just keep them at home with them, and use as payment for a future cruise. AmberMarie Posted May 17, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2007 I'm thinking about buying some fun ship dollars and putting them as OBC in September... will they just be put to MY S and S card, not the 2nd person going with me? Not that I don't love my DBF, but this is MY vacation money :) So, if I know this correctly.. if I use Fun Ship Dollars, the only cash on board I would have to spend is for tips and casino, right? And if I don't use all my Fun Ship OBC, they will give me a check at the end of the cruise? So, I could buy some Fun Ship Dollars and Traveler's Checks NOW, and not have to worry about saving any more money for the cruise, right? Because the purser's desk cashes Traveler's checks for free, right? And then if I don't use them all, I could just cash them and keep the cash. Do Trav Checks expire? I would suggest having the fun ship dollars sent to your HOME, not applied to OBC. Then once on board, go to the Purser's desk and have the Fun Ship Dollars applied to YOUR S&S account. That will avoid any confusion between the two accounts. The instructions that come with the fun ship dollars will say that they need to be mailed in to Carnival 2 weeks before your cruise, but that is NOT true. Just bring them with you and the Purser's Desk will credit them properly for you. As far as thetravelers checks questions (cost to cash them at purser's desk, and if they expire) I can't help you with that. I don't THINK they expire, but a quick call to your bank would verify that.
dms_cruisers04 Posted May 17, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 17, 2007 Traveler's checks don't expire, they're like cash except for the signature. Thus the reason two are required. Amber, the other think that you'll need to do (if you aren't already) is be sure you and DBF setup seperate S&S accounts, ie. seperate cash accounts or seperate credit cards, when you check-in. Otherwise the account is considered one for the entire cabin.
