I might catch hell for this one as well, but there are courteous smokers out there, me being one of them... usually confined to the patio outside of my quite large backyard to smoke... and I am not a chain smoker by any means...

When recently sailing for my last fling before the ring party, I may have been pretty toasty all weekend long, but confined my smoking to not just the smoking areas, but only the outside smoking areas... would enjoy my cigarette and coffee in the morning on the 7th deck, and when others came towards me (i.e. a mom with a child walking along the deck or by the pool in the smoking area) I steered clear, even moving sometimes with my drink, and hiding my cigarette behind me... just to be sure...

This isn't just a cruise habit, this is my way of smoking in any public place (not many, I live in California)... I hope that others will read this and know that there are some of us out there that try to be courteous...

Yes, eventually all cruise lines will be smoke free. It might take a few decades, though. Just like all cruise lines are now opium and cocaine free, thanks to the legislation passed in 1914. :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Narcotics_Tax_Act

Flame away :D

That's what you think buddy, I can tell you I can buy opium in any cruiseship anywhere so there:p You walk into the shop and ask for it by name, it's expensive but well worth it;) Cheers, Carole

I would book on a smoke free cruise in a quick minute. How wonderful it would be, for a non-smoker like myself, to go to the casino and night (and be able to breath) and not have to worry about your neighbors smoke invading your balcony.... :)[/quote

On all of the Carnival ships that we have been on there is NO smoking in the dining rooms, the Lido buffet area, one entire side of the ship on the lido deck (as I recall the port side), no smoking in the gymnasium or spa, and no smoking on the port side in the atrium lounge, also no smoking in the theater on any of the three levels. That is reasonably restrictive. Besides, all of the smokers will be dead soon, so just be patient.

Filthy disgusting habit. One of my nurses couldn't quit and died a very painful death. She was 49.

Sometimes I think death by tobacco was a posthumous revenge from the 40 million natives of North, Central and South America for their genocide by the white Europeans.

I could go either way on this one, I too find that some of my funnest friends are smokers, I do like to enjoy the occassional cigar :)

And they are going to be even more funnest when they are on a respirator. The look of astonishment is hilarious in itself. That would be the "how on earth did I get myself into this mess" look.

I do acknowledge that there are some considerate smokers like a few of the previous posters. However I find it totally ironic that many folks on this board are condoning smoking because it makes "people drink more" and "party more." So therefore those who are drinking more and focussed on partying and having themselves a grand ol time - do we think these are the considerate smokers?

Sitting in the casino last week with three other people at a blackjack table, all blowing smoke away from themselves (towards others) - that is what I can not condone! I do NOT want to smell your nasty habit on me all night long. I do NOT want to irritate my lungs with your habit. I do not want to endanger my health because you have made a decision for your own body - not mine. I just wish more smokers would be concerned about those around them.

I smoked most of my life. One day, while driving around town, I realized That the pain I felt was a heart attack. So I drove to the hospital. Parking in the ER parking lot and heading for the door, I flipped away a butt thinking, "That's probably the last of them." And it was the last cigarette! Days and dissections later, when they finally got that bus off my chest, the smoking desire went with it. Over 7 years and not more than half a dozen tiny twinges of desire, I'd guess the habit is broken. Patches or gum would have been a hell of a lot easier but the coronary way did work.

We will never all agree about smoking. There are considerate smokers and some that are awful. I had some people on legend this past February that were very good. We also had some that were spiteful and blew it towards our balcony. I was in the casino. One lady deliberately held her butt straight out towards my seat. I asked her nicely if she minded holding it in front of her. She was very RUDE to me! I finally got up and told her to choke on it. Most of my friends are plenty of fun. None of them smoke. Most of the upper class hotels in a lot of big cities are non smoking now. I just booked a big hotel for one of my bosses. He does smoke. They were all non smoking now. He will have to go outside. Some of the rooms stink of smoke. I buy a small can of spray from bath & body that makes the room nice and fresh. I won't travel without it. I am very allergic to cigarettes. I stay away from it as much as possible. I can't take the migraines. I am not going to miss my casino because of it. I do get up and change machines dozens of times because of it. Went to Foxwoods today. One of the biggest casinos in the world. They are making more and more NON smoking rooms there which is Great for us NON Smokers! I hate them and that is me. I can't stand the smell of them. Nothing worse than a women who just finishes one and sprays half a bottle of perfume on her to think you can't smell it. Then they breathe on you. I had friends who went on Paradise. They loved it. It was full too.

I smoke a little, more when I am drinking or in a social setting. Not all smokers are mean, just as not all non-smokers are annoying nags. I don't mind going outside to smoke, don't smoke in my house, nor my car. I live in Ca, I am used to hiding and being polite to others around me. They won't stop smoking on a ship, but may say no more smoking indoors. That would be fine by me. In fact until I signed up for this message board I didn't even know you could smoke in your room and this will be my 3rd cruise. I do smoke on my balcony that is why I pay more money for it.

i think they need to make the ship quit smoking. that nasty bunker fuel smoke that comes out of the funny red weird shaped thing on the top of the ship. that has to go. it interfears with my lido deck enjoyment.

Lets see, the dining room, the show loungs and over half of the open decks. These places are always full. Ban it from all areas, but have the courtsey to give the smokers plenty of areas to do their thing. The smoke dosen't bother me physically, but it makes my clothes smell bad.
