Independence Mine before June 9th?

We are going to be in Alaska next week and would like to embed some type of mining trip into our vacation. Many have recommened this place, but their website says the visitors center doesnt open until June 9th.

 

Is there anything worthwhile here to do or see before June 9th?

There's still snow in the higher elevations of the Talkeetna Mountains. Not sure how far you can get up the Hatcher Pass Road to Independence Mine.
