Summit to Hawaii Question

I am considering the San Diego to Hawaii sailing on 11/9. I would like to know if this is generally a rough or smooth crossing and the weather that time of year. Thanks.

We were on Infinity (identical to Summit) November 6, 2005 out of San Diego. It was pretty rough the first day and a half or so...lots of empty chairs in the dining room. It didn't bother us. My wife uses a transderm patch and she was fine. After that it was smooth. We did it in December 2004 as well. It was a little rough out of San Diego, but not as rough as 2005.

We will be sailing on our 4th Hawaii RT out of San Diego in October. Our experience has been that the first 2 days out and the last 2 days back tend to be roughest. The reason is that you are crossing the Pacific or Japanese Current which comes right down the Pacific coast from Alaska. Depending on the strength of that current, crossing it can be rough or not so rough. It is also the coolest part of the trip because you are going through cool water coming down from Alaska. Ocean temps here in San Diego rarely get above 72 even in the summer and drop in to the high 50s in the winter:)

We did round trip from San Diego in December a few years ago. It was cool, leaving CA, but was not rough going to Hawaii or back. No problem. Enjoy your trip. It is fabulous!

We are going on the Nov 9th cruise. 2nd time on the Summit. Can hardly wait and everything we have read seems to be that the weather should be great. Cool the first two days and last two days.
