Just back from 9 day Bermuda & Carib on EOS, any ?

Recommended Posts

I hope Ricky is still there in July. He was such a bright point in our cruise. Alan was also very good. I'm so happy you reported honestly. This year I will going in not expecting much and hopefully have a wonderful, relaxing time with my family.

I give you credit cruising with an infant. We wasted many years not taking vacations when the kids were little. I wish I could change that now.

Is the coffee included or do you have to pay for coffee in there? Also, what do you have to pay for in the Promenade as far as drinks or food?

Any other eating establishments where the food is included?

Thanks

The coffee, tea, sandwiches, cookies, etc are all free. Only the specialty coffee drinks and Ben and Jerry's Ice cream are extra. :)

I'm thinking about a cruise on the Empress of the Seas this winter. My question concerns the cabins. I haven't decided yet whether to save money and get an inside cabin, or spend a little more and get an outside cabin. Is there a lot of difference with regard to the cabin itself or placement on the ship?

EOS Bermuda & Caribbean May 11

Guest Relations

I have never been treated so badly by any staff ever, on any vacation, cruise or resort, in my life. I consider myself a very lucky person and have the ability to vacation 3-4 times a year, so I deal with a lot of Guest Relations staff. I would have to say RCL has the worst.

Passengers

A lot of mean old people if you want my opinion.

.

We were on the same sailing and I'm sorry you experienced something different from what we experienced. At Guest Relations, the staff treated us courteously and efficiently. Pablo was one of the names that I recall and he was so pleasant, I wanted to mention him here.

As far as mean old people, I mean, I saw old people, same as I see on every cruise but didn't find any that I would have considered rude or mean. I do not doubt what you say you experienced, it's just that I didn't see any of that myself.

I do wonder though, how do you suppose Norwegian prevents old rude people from booking with them?

I guess when you pay more for something the quality of the passengers seem to change and not just social security receiving bingo players and low class hicks.

I thought I was being helpful for answering questions, didn't think my opinions would be chastised.

This website is called cruise CRITIC right?

For the questions asked:

Bermuda was a beach day for us, I think Bermuda has the most beautiful beaches in the world and I always save my shopping for St Thomas.

I have been in outside and inside cabins, to me I just like being mid-ship.

Outside cabins are nice for the view, but mid-ship is important for sea sickness.

I'm sorry you think I was chastising, I wasn't. Did you see I expressed sorrow that you did not experience what we experienced? Did you see that I also stated I did not doubt what you said?

I just questioned how you thought you could avoid old mean people on NCL.

Now that I've read your reply, I'm no longer wondering how it is we were treated so differently by staff.

Cantwait, you can contact RC at:

Reserve Your Royal Caribbean Vacation (866) 562-7625

Monday - Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (Midnight) EST

Ask the consultant about buses from your state and where the pickups are. The price disappeared as the cruise date got closer. You may have to call a few times to talk to someone who knows. From other posts I've seen, not everyone who works for RC seems to know about the buses. Even many TA's couldn't find info. Good luck.

I'm sorry you feel that your experience on the Explorer was not up to your expectations. By the way the most expensive cabin on the Explorer is the Royal Suite which was located across the hall from you. I stay in this location of the RS on 10 and have fortunately never experienced the noise that you did. The OS that you stayed in does have a considerably larger balcony than the standard balcony cabin and you can fine the exact measurement on www.rccl.com under Explorer. Thank you for posting your review and I respect your opinion also and I think it's a good thing that people do share their experiences with others. However, my experience with the Explorer is different and I find the ship and the crew to be excellent which is why the Explorer is my ship of choice out of all the other ships/cruiselines that sail out of my NY area. In my experience the majority of passengers are of a younger age than you observed and many have young children as RCCL clearly designs their ships to be very family friendly and entertaining for children and adults alike and they welcome passengers of all ages. I personally enjoy passengers of all ages onboard and I respect those that have difficulties getting around in wheel chairs or walkers that may need additional help from the crew and I think its wonderful that they are able to enjoy the cruising experience also. RCCL has not cornered the market on rude people, you will find NCL has their share also. I think we could all be a little bit more tolerant of each other sometimes but yes, there will always be rude, pushy, opinionated passengers onboard any cruise. I do agree the waiting on staircases to leave the ship is ridiculas but this happens on other ships also so not limited to just the Explorer or RCCL. I travel quite a bit myself like you do and I find the staff at the Explorer Guest Relation desk to be very helpful and polite. Did you ask to be moved to another OS as there are several onboard? Perhaps they would have moved you if there had been another one available. Many of NCL suites are all located on their higher decks as well so the location on the cruiselines to place their suites higher and some under the pool deck is common. I like the deck you were on which is 10 because I find it a very quiet location but obviously you did not have that experience. Well thanks for sharing your experience and your opinion and I hope your next cruise when you return to NCL is a good one! :)

Deidre, I collect social security (but I do not play bingo, and I'm not a "low class hick"). Would you be so kind as to explain your statement? Do you mean that those who do play bingo are catagorized into a low class? My mother always enjoyed that game so do I hope that you don't mean it in a nasty way. I truly don't understand what you are insinuating.

I'm sorry for you that you encountered problems on your recent cruise, and I do hope your next one is much more enjoyable.

In addition to the 2 formal nights were there smart casual 1 or 2(semi formal)?

When are the Ice shows, are there different shows or just one repeated?

Thanks for any info. Can't wait till Friday for my turn.

DH and I just returned from Explorer 5/11 and LOVED the entire cruise.

Did not have any trouble with any mean people. Enjoyed the little ones on board, esp. on formal nites. And no seniors pushed us.

The staff was the best I have ever experienced, including any dealing I had at the pursers desk.

On Sunday (Bermuda), DH and I purchased the travel pass for the day and had no trouble traveling (by bus) to Hamilton. Not much was open. but we enjoyed taking photos of the town. The bus ride was a hoot. The roads are very narrow, curved and hilly...bus driver did not go slow. We loved the ride, and enjoyed the colorful homes along the route.

We took the ferry back to Kings Wharf and shopped around. It is very nice there, but also very expensive.

The only thing that bothered me was the beautiful, very young, child ( no more than, maybe 5) wondering around the ship quite often....PARENTS, PLEASE...............

Imasealuvr, we weren't on your sailing, but we did take the Explorer to Bermuda and we enjoyed our cruise as well. Everyone seemed well mannered aboard too, thank goodness. That beach near the ship was really nice (Snorkel Park). There was a pavilion & a water slide, and it was next to the Dolphin Quest. Did you get to see it?

We were there during the week so the shops were open. Wasn't it a beautiful island!?:)

I posted these questions earlier, but maybe they were overlooked.

How did the 12PM - 9PM time in St. Martin affect things? Were the shops in Philipsburg open later than usual?

Same question for San Juan...was anything open that early the morning (7AM)? We plan to walk Old San Juan, explore the forts, and do some shopping.

We were also on this sailing. Had no problem being directed to the Suite/Diamond waiting area. After proceeding through security we entered the terminal and walked towards the area that had a SIGN for suite/diamond check-in.

The person at the entrance of the waiting area checked our paperwork to confirm we belonged there and we were escorted to the seating area. While I was in the check-in line a passenger with a stroller walked up to the entrance of the waiting area and was stopped by the employee assigned to the entrance.

The passenger was quite rude to the employee and in a loud and arrogant tone informed the employee that she was sailing in an Owners Suite. My husband and a couple standing in front of us heard this conversation and we all just rolled our eyeballs!

I wonder if this was the OP...........if this was the way she spoke to the guest relations employees no wonder she felt the service was bad.

As for the OP's comments about the old social security collecting bingo players, and hicks and old rude people - I really don't believe it was necessary for you to make those comments. Yes the site is called Cruise CRITIC but to make a broad statement like that catergorizing passengers in such a way is not nice - as a matter of fact it is down right rude.

Sorry the cruise didnt live up to your expectations. Hope NCL has banned bingo so you dont have to sail with that type of crowd again!

Hi,

I think the shops closed at 6pm in Philipsburg. As for San Juan most of the stores opened at 10am.

Yes the menus were different than when we sailed in August of 2006. Sorry but I do not have copies of the menus and I did not write down the selections every night.

In addition to approximately 4 or 5 entree choices there is an alternative selection offered nightly which consisted of salmon, steak, chicken, and pasta.

You also had the option of ordering Caesar salad every night.

And of course there is always the Windjammer. We did not eat dinner there - only lunch every day. I found the selections there changed daily. Each day they had the standard hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches but if you venture around to each serving station you will find other selections not displayed on the main buffet line. There was also a carving station in the Island Grill area on the right side as you are facing the buffet line.

Enjoy your cruise!!!!!

TRVLMIL, Isn't platinum also given priority check in at the Bayonne port? Or is it only Diamond? Do you recall?
