Are there Nextel roaming charges in Alaska?

We are sailing on the Zaandam June 13 out of Vancouver, BC. Will I be able to use my Sprint/Nextel there? What about on the ship while at sea?

4 years ago, the Nextel did not work in Alaska. Unless they have expanded their coverage area, the phone is useless.

Cingular works fine up in Alaska in all ports and in Canada, too.

I have Sprint which I believes uses the same network as Nextel and just got back from the Noordam Alaska cruise. I had my cell phone off for much of the cruise as I wanted a break from phones, but did turn it on while docked in Juneau and had good reception (not even roaming, just regular call). I also checked my voice mail in either Sitka or Ketchikan (forget which one) and again had a good signal and was not roaming.
