[).

I've been on my period on nearly every vacation I've had (including my honeymoon  ), and I've just learned to deal with it. It's not the end of the world. Here in the US we have the Instead cup, that you can find by the tampons/pads, and you put it in like a diaphragm and it captures your flow. I think it would be a bit messy upon taking out, but you can wear it all day and not worry about pads/tampons...and you can do "other" activities without the mess

Woops...didn't realize you were already using softcup!!

If your ob/gyn approves the Aygestin, I would try that....I have had no issues taking it. Granted, I am taking it for other purposes, but I've had no problems with it. Good luck!:)

As a second choice the softcup is a great product. I can't say enough about it. Thanks for the info and I'll let you know what I decide to do. If I use it June to postpone that one, hopefully it won't mess with the JUly one, like if my body gets all out of whack. I may just leave well enough alone, I might be chickening out, so confused:confused:

This is a more permanent solution, I am having a prodcedure called Novasure done June 7th. It is only an option for those who are sure they do not want to have children as there is a risk of not being able to get pregnant. It is a 5 minute procedure that uses a lasar to loosen the lining of the uterus and then removes the lining completly! No more periods ever! I am having it in conjunction with having my tubes tied but it can be done by itself.

The procedure itself is called an endometrial ablation. I have periods from hell to the point where I am bedridden with cramps and extremely heavy bleeding. I also become severely anemic. Never had this problem until I got my tubes tied. My OB/GYN suggested I have this done but my insurance will not cover it and it is quite an expensive procedure. I'm waiting patiently to switch insurance carriers at the beginning of this year so it'll be covered.

Just for anyone's information, here's a little more about the procedure. :) There are side effects to it as well and it isn't 100% guaranteed that your periods will stop. A lot of the studies show that some women experience irregular cycles/breakthrough bleeding after the procedure. They still menstruate but just have lighter and shorter cycles. Also if you do not have the procedure done in conjunction with a sterilization and should somehow become pregnant (it does and has happened) you are placing yourself in a potentially fatal situation.

lol the things you read on here...you girls are great but please talk to your doc...ablation, hormone injections, Lupron etc all are pretty serious suggestions for just not wanting your period. There are great pills out there now so talk to your gyn. Make sure your medical history is ok....either way I am sure you will make an informed decision that fits your lifestyle...good luck:)

Just to clarify, I am NOT taking Lupon "just to not have a period"...I am taking it under doctor's orders for endometriosis after already having surgery last year. I was not suggesting at all for the poster to get Lupron to stop her period. I was telling her I take Aygestin in conjunction with the Lupron since she was asking about Aygestin.

I completely agree with you about consulting a physician prior to doing any of these things and to do them simply for convenience of not having a period is insane. I suggested the poster either try a birth control pill or just suck it up and have her period on vacation. I think everyone here understands the poster will consult a doctor, I think she was asking for opinions of others who have done the same thing...

Three years ago, I was referred to an OB-GYN who prescribed the BC pill Errin, I haven't had a period since. Also missing are the horrible cramps, headaches, and mood changes ;)

Agree with others don't just listen to what you read here, see a specialist.

I would assume (as the others who have posted "advice" probably have assumed as well) that the OP would consult a qualified professional for advice. Those who no longer have their period, for whatver reason, were just sharing why. The topic did veer a little from the initial question; I'm am certain that no rational person would undergo a surgical procedure such as endometrial ablation or hormone injections to just have the convenience of skipping a period. Note how those who shared those experiences also have stated they had an underlying medical problem; they didn't just state "Oh, I was due to go on vacation and wanted to skip my period so I had the inside of my uterus lasered out".

Sometimes it's a lot easier having a "shopping list" to take in to your appointment; a list of options to research, questions, etc... We ALL know how much time our doctors have for us once we're finally through our hour long waiting room experience! :D

This is my FIRST vacation in years and years and years that I don't have to worry about it. I had a hysterectomy in December. I am so excited to be on vacation and not have to worry about it. I am nearly giddy over it! LOL

Thank you, I have no intention of having a surgery performed in order to skip a period. I think those that were talking about the surgery were doing just that, talking and sharing. I have enjoyed this discussion and it is always interesting to learn new things. As I have stated the medication I was talking about is a perscription therefore I would have to consult my Dr. If and when I talk with her I will decide what is best for me and if I choose not to try the medicine I will continue to use the softcup. My main question was if someone had ever used that medicine for this purpose and how did it work for them. I used BC pills earlier and since my husband had a vas. i have no reason to use them and would rather not. Keep the discussion going as I think it has been extremely informative and it is not everyday we can discuss such private matters. I am pleased that those who had not heard of softcup/instead have a new option to try.:D

I have used Norethisterone for the exact same reasons. I first used it in 2000 and have used it a few times since. The only slight negative i have found is I do still have a tender bust and some bloating, which is uncomfortable but not enough to stop my enjoyment on holiday. My advice would be to see your doctor asap, and adjust your period before your holiday, as long as your cycle is regular you would then not have to bother about taking them during your holiday as your period would not be due.

You're welcome! :) I never knew about ablation until my doctor mentioned it. I thought it was interesting option for those with medical conditions that would warrant it. My OB tried recommending BCP for treatment, but like you (or your DH rather), I have had my tubes tied and I did that for a reason. I don't want to take pills! lol I love learning about new things too, like the Softcup!

For those who have used Softcup or something like it, does it work OK with heavy flow? As I previously posted, I have a flow from hell and get tired of going through a super plus tampon plus a pad within a few hours. I would love an option where I didn't have to be so paranoid about "leaking". :o

All you ladies that are menapausal you are so lucky! I am almost 52 and I still have to suffer every single month with my period! I am beginning to think that I will have to buy tampons until I am 90!

I am not sure how it works on heavy flow. I know my first day or 2 I change it about every 5 hrs and after that it can go about 8-10 hrs. No leakage if it is in correctly. Give it a try on a day you are going to be home that way you can practice and see how it goes. Hope that helps, they really are great and you are able to swim and forget about your period.
