American $$ for Cab in Vancouver?

We are taking a cab from the rental car office to Ballantyne Pier. Will American $$ work or do we need to convert for just that purpose?

I would be surprised if the cab driver would not accept American dollars but you won't likely get anything near the correct rate of exchange. On the other hand, for a relatively short taxi ride, it would not amount to much.

With the falling US$, expect to pay the cab in US$ whatever the meter shows or whatever price you negotiate. Remember to add about 10% tip. /Sultan

We took a Taxi from the Marriott Pinnacle to the airport and paid $30 american with tip. What places I did pay in American you get Canadian back.

Taxi driver shouldn't have a problem with taking American. Expect the exchange to be PAR. As for change, you will always get change in CAD, since no one in Canada actually keeps USD around.

 

Let's say it clear so that our American friends understand... USD in Canada is about as useful as CAD is in the USA. We have nothing to do with it but turn it in at the bank for CAD.

Use a credit card, all the cabs I have ever taken in Vancouver accept credit cards, let the cab driver know when you get in the cab so he has time to scan the card and check for validity.
