Car Rental in St. John's Newfoundland

Has anyone rented a car in St. John's? Most of the car rental agencies seem to be located at the airport, which is a considerable distance from the port. Any suggestions or recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Avis has a location on Water Street, about a 5 minute walk from where the ships dock.

I got so excited by this news, so I checked the Avis website to book a car. Unfortunately the Avis office on Water Street is closed on Sundays (according to the Avis website) and we'll be arriving on Sunday, Sept. 23. Are there any rental agencies that will meet us at port with a car, or pick us up to take us to the rental agency? Thanks for the help.

Thrifty have a rate of $37 & usually will pick up. Phone 1 800 847 4389.
