NJPrisonCop Posted June 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2007 There isn't much here regarding the Spirit, so I thought I would ask if anyone has been on this ship and what I might expect/want to keep an eye out for. My wife and I are going with the family (as part of my parents 40th anniversary celebration). It will be me, my wife, mom, dad, sister, brother in law, niece (6) and nephew (2 1/2). My wife is pregnant with twins, so we are hoping the ship does not cause havoc on her morning sickness. It is going to be nice to go and not do a darn thing all week. I just want to relax. As you can see from my username, forgetting work and the real world for 6 days will not be hard. Thanks for any info you can share. Scott
NJPrisonCop Posted June 7, 2007 Author #2 Share Posted June 7, 2007 PS: If we do not get off the ship in ports, do they keep the pools open and everything going? Some do, some dont. I know the buffets will be open while in port, but what if we want to sit by the pool and not get off the ship? Scott

Kids crew is closed. Here is a link to a recent detailed review of the Spirit : if you have additional questions, feel free to ask, as I have been on her twice already, with a third coming in September. :) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=566588
NJPrisonCop Posted June 7, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted June 7, 2007 Thanks. Although we are not doing the same itinerary as you did, you gave some good points on the ship itself. Scott

212cruiser Posted June 7, 2007 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2007 The Spirit is a fine ship with a great Captain and crew. If you search the board there is a alot of discussion about the Spirit and past cruises. Have a great cruise.
Seago2 Posted June 7, 2007 #7 Share Posted June 7, 2007 You will love the Spirit. She is a beautiful ship and very well maintained. I think she is just the right size... very understated decor and great crew. There are lots of places where you can let the kids hang out without bothering other passengers. I found the food to be wonderful both cruises but I haven't cruised on her since April '06. I never noticed any rocking or pitching beyond the usual- except for one night when we were in a bad storm. That cruise left from Miami so you never know! Good luck!
Sea Hound Posted June 7, 2007 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2007 My wife is pregnant with twins, so we are hoping the ship does not cause havoc on her morning sickness. Scott Scott -- I don't know if you are aware of NCL's policy for pregnant travelers so I thought I'd post it here: What if I'm pregnant? NCL will make every effort to accommodate you, providing you have not entered the 24th week of pregnancy when the cruise ends. Please include your cruise details in an email to the Access Desk with a medical certificate establishing your due date prior to your cruise. You probably already knew this but better safe than sorry! Have a great cruise! Sea Hound:D
NJPrisonCop Posted June 7, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted June 7, 2007 I didnt know I have to have a certificate. My wife will be 14 weeks pregnant the week of the cruise, so I guess we are ok on that end. My mom's a travel agent so I am sure she would have let me know if there was something I needed to provide the cruise line. Scott

I doubt they would ask unless it was obvious. Have a great trip!!!!!
hyperplanner Posted June 7, 2007 #11 Share Posted June 7, 2007 Hi there fellow NJ friend , The Spirit is an awesome ship, with plenty to do even on board during port stops. Your family will have a great time. You are so blessed already. Take extra care that she is keeping hydrated and nourished and you guys will have it made. Leaving on July 1rst on my second sailing on the Spirit! This time with my kids!! :)
McCutie Posted June 7, 2007 #12 Share Posted June 7, 2007 I haven't been on the Spirit yet but I have been pregnant on NCL and all you really need is a note form the doctor with their letterhead stating what week of pregnancy your wife will be on the cruise. I was 20 weeks along and really didn't look big but I got a note anyway..No one ever asked to see it. When are you going?
WErlich Posted June 8, 2007 #13 Share Posted June 8, 2007 NJ we just got the ship. For your wife's morning sickness she can take ginger candy to help with the sea sickness. My family and I didn't have any trouble with it. Congrats on the twins and have a great twin.

NJPrisonCop Posted June 10, 2007 Author #15 Share Posted June 10, 2007 We are going on June 17th, and we are looking forward to it. I emailed the access desk at NCL's corporate, and they told me to have a "fit to travel" letter sent by my doctor. They did assure me they got it, and want me to have the original for when we hit the pier. So far so good. Looking forward to forgetting about anything having to do with a prison :) I dont think it will be hard. I will most likely be doing nothing but sitting by the pool and maybe playing a little blackjack with my dad (that apple didnt fall too far from the tree).. kyleminski Posted June 10, 2007 #16 Share Posted June 10, 2007 NJprison- Look for the recent review from lotteryfan it was excellent, and he was on the spirit for two weeks. I loved the spirit it's a great ship. I found the color coded carpeting a great help, and remember when ever you get off the elevators you are facing the back of the ship. Have a great time! cantwaitt Posted June 11, 2007 #17 Share Posted June 11, 2007 I have been on it a few times--during the summer and during the winter--and I think it is a great "summer ship." So many different places to sit outside. I love eating breakfast in the outside part in back of the buffet room. And there is never trouble getting a seat there. I love the Dawn but it does not have this feature.

As a former cop myself I don't think you want to ask PrisonCop to "shoot" you a question. LOL. You're going to love the Spirit. Very relaxing. If you run into Grace or Mary Ann in the casino tell them Paul said "hi".

I'm hoping to find the time to post a review, so stay tuned.
